The gameplay is a bit too simple for my taste; there isn't much agency involved and it doesn't seem like your choices matter (as in it doesn't matter where I go explore or not).

They've done it again. A brilliant action roguelike with variety for every run.

AMENDED, 11 March 2024:

The loading times are a bit better and the game runs more smoothly too but I've had to turn down all of my settings to the lowest ones possible. Nevertheless I just want to note that I've had some pretty unpleasant interactions in the community discord, and even devs who are weirdly defensive/insecure about the flaws in their game. This game is incomplete - the AI are a nightmare on any difficulty because they will try to ram you off the racing line if you are anywhere near them. This also occurs independent of player input because you can set the AI on a race by themselves and you can see them turn into bumper cars.

AMENDED, 6 March 2024:

The loading times are absolutely abysmal, the game runs terribly (I've tried all the Community Fixes, even running everything on lowest graphics possible - I'm on a 3080 for crying out loud). There is nothing to recommend about this game.

I absolutely cannot recommend the game as of now for the following reasons:

1. The loading times into a race are abysmal, and the UI/settings are laggy to the point of it being unplayable. The game itself also performs terribly when you're in game, as both the settings and in game lag as well.

2. The lack of controller support is astounding - in theory you can use a controller when in the race, but you can't use it to navigate the menus well because the controller prompts don't show up, and in any case, controller steering is terribly calibrated to the point that you basically can't steer with it.

Putting aside the cheaters or whatever, the main problem is that the game just isn't fun - the balance across the classes are just atrocious and the guns feel like paperweights.

An absolute masterpiece of a game. This is the peak of the stealth RTS genre so far. Although the plot is a bit forgettable, the characters themselves are compelling. The level design, combined with the variety of skills your crew has, ensured that I was hooked until the very end.

Brilliant.

Just wanted to put in my 2 cents on why I ultimately bounced off this game. Really just boils down to 3 points which are very subjective to myself.

1. The gunplay is still unsatisfying. The thing with third person shooters is that the guns need to "feel" good to shoot. They need to have weight, not least of all because the camera isn't aimed at the gun. Remnant 2's guns feel...empty. Like I'm using some editing tool to just send down hitboxes. None of the guns feel good to shoot.

2. The map exploration...it still feels like a chore more than anything.

3. The movement, perhaps because of the aforementioned maps, just doesn't feel good. It constantly feels like I'm battling my character to get it to go where I want, made all the worse by the fact that I can't quickly reposition. For the love of god I cannot understand why sprinting in combat also takes stamina. While I understand this might serve a point in something like Dark Souls where sprinting away from melee combat renders much of the combat useless, in a third person shooter (especially when the alternative to sprinting is a leisurely walk) it just feels awful. This was made all the more apparent after I played Armoured Core 6. There is a point to be made about how these are "different" kinds of third person shooters, and I accept that. but if remnant 2 is trying to encourage a methodical style, it's not reflected in the map design. By definition because of its procedurally generated maps, no thought has gone into the maps. This is a problem when so much of the game revolves around movement and positioning. In contrast while I admit Returnal has some elements of proc-gen, it handles it much better.

AMENDED: Besides the fact that the UI is now atrocious, I'm also getting constant crashes to desktop. Forget this game for a month and see if either is fixed.

I have nothing to add except this is the best ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game I have played in a long time, everything from the combat to the combos just feel amazing; the last time i felt melee combat this good was playing sekiro. Buy it.
