Early Access Review
This recommendation is in regards to single player only, after around 26 hours of playtime. I did not play with friends nor was I interested in doing so. I was primarily interested in the game as a single player experience. If you aren't going to play this game alone, this will likely not matter for you.

This is not a single player game. You can play it by your lonesome but I stress, it is not a single player game. if you have friends to play with there's a genuinely good foundation here and the praise many others have laid upon this game is well-warranted. I'm sure even some of the rough edges can be charming when playing with friends. If you're the type to prefer playing by yourself, and especially if you were drawn in by the intricate building system like myself, I sadly would not recommend this. I failed to realize because of the overwhelmingly positive reviews for the game just how unbelievably slow and frustrating it can be playing on your own.

While many facets hinder the solo experience, especially the guidance offered by the bird being woefully inadequate, you'll get used to them and nothing feels insurmountable, at least in the first few areas. It's the building system and how it interacts with the other aspects of the game - namely combat - that finally drove me away. The building system is fantastic, one of the most pleasant I've engaged with once you get a feel for its quirks. If you're playing alone, building decent structures is going to take awhile, but by itself this is not an issue - when you actually gather up the resources and find some peace enough to work on something, it's incredibly enjoyable and rewarding. To be clear, I do enjoy having these survival and combat elements present, a creative godmode is not what I want. However, with the constant nuisances of fast, flighty enemies and the destructive power of trolls that can undo hours of work in seconds, that fun is far outweighed by annoyance and frustration, and from what I've heard from friends, this aspect only gets worse as you progress through the game.

There are of course workarounds to these issues, but they're workarounds that make building and frankly the game as a whole less fun for me - spamming workbenches everywhere, not building anywhere at all outside the Meadows, digging unsightly moats around your base, not progressing too far into the game (come on)... You get the idea. It's quite a jarring contrast, having such a robust building system with restrictions that force you to use at least some creativity and thought in planning out your structures, yet being willing to have enemies that you eventually cannot avoid able to tear all of that down with minimal effort. Without friends to assist in clearing and securing an area to build and fortify, it's proven to be an infuriating and demoralizing experience.

Maybe I thought the game was something it isn't, maybe the game just needs more time and polish, or maybe the brutal single player experience is intended and is just not my cup of tea. Whatever the case is, as it stands right now, if you want to play a game of this sort on your own, I say you should consider something else.

Has easily earned a place as one of my favorite puzzle games, if not my absolute favorite puzzle game, full stop. Within the introduction alone, the game teaches everything you need to know - that being that the only steadfast rule is that readable sentences are true. As it progresses, the challenge increases significantly as more and more words are introduced to the logic lexicon, while still being in simple enough chunks to understand for anyone capable of reading. With a charming art style reminiscent of a child's drawing book and chill music that reminds you to take your time, this game is an absolute joy to sit down and unwind with, cannot recommend it enough to just about anyone of any age or experience with games.

A real triumph of a Kickstarter and Early Access game. The devs have delivered on and even exceeded my expectations that I had way back in 2015 when I bought it, and have consistently been engaged with the community and responding to feedback. The weekly devlogs and reliable update schedule have also been huge in my enjoyment of the game over time and with its full release, I can definitely say it paid off. It brings back many of the same elements I loved about RCT and expands on them handily. Highly recommended to anyone looking for a similar experience.

By and far one of the most purely enjoyable platforming experiences I've had to date, with some solid music, a plethora of challenges to overcome and secrets to find, with a very comfortable and well-tuned difficulty curve. The story, characters, and themes resonated very strongly with me as well, as somebody who has struggled severely with depression in the past. I couldn't regret a single penny spent on this if I tried, and I haven't even completed it in full yet. I absolutely cannot recommend this enough to anyone who likes platformers.

Keep on climbing, you can do it!

UPDATE: Closing in on the last few levels in the game and my opinion has changed very little. This game is still incredible at every turn (with exception of the occasionally frustrating bumper segments). I dearly hope to see a level editor in the future, it would suit the game beautifully.

A fun, fast, satisfying sequel. I'll note right away that this is a very score focused game, much like the original. No RPG mechanics, barebones story, no fluff - my first run through story mode took about an hour on Hard.

However, what is here is absolutely nailed - so far I'm enjoy this just as much if not more than the original. The stages are fairly short but each boss is satisfying to fight and none overstay their welcome. The unlockable characters in particular (and weapons, to a lesser extent) are excellent for adding a bit of variety to each run, as each offer unique abilities - and every character feels well equipped to deal with each stage. There is noticeable consideration taken towards making sure the game is still challenging and fun with all of them.

Pretty much the only downside I can note at the moment is how there's very little feedback when you take damage. Sometimes amidst the chaos it's hard to tell when I get hit, and paying attention to your HP bar is equally difficult. While it may get easier to notice with practice, it makes learning how to avoid certain attacks early on pretty rough.

Despite that minor gripe, this is an easy recommendation to anyone who enjoyed the original, and if you haven't played that, I recommend both if you enjoy fast paced score attack type games.

One of my favorite games of all time, made even better thanks to OpenRCT2. An absolute steal whether on sale or not.

Whether you love managing finances or just have a general interest in theme parks, it's hard not to love this game.
