When I first started playing Parkan I had no idea what the heck was going on. I started my first mission, landed on my first planet and still didn't know what was going on.

After actually reading and listening to a bit of AI that speaks to you within the game, she gave me some good pointers to go look at my mission log book. The game is pretty cool, and reminds me of Star Trek Online way before it was even a thought. Parkan goes as follows, you have a ship that can be modified in many different ways. The suit you use when you transport to worlds can also be customized and weapons changed. The game is a FPS/RPG type game where you are able to build diplomatic ties with certain factions.

The gameplay itself is first person in the ship and first person on the planet. The ship controls are done with the keyboard and mouse and provides for a decently rewarding firefight. This game provides it's own unique approach to FPS/RPG. It's not FULL OUT customization on the ship and suit (colors, decals... bla bla) but shooting rockets or lazers, go ahead and go nuts choose which one you'd like to shoot.

Would give it an 8 if it was substantially different but due to it's age :

A game that is much funner with friends, unless you like FPS needless killing or are a fan of the series.

Would I recommend this game? I would have recommended the first as it is almost the exact same as the second. The reason why I can't recommend this second one is there is nothing really to differentiate the game from others. Yes there are special abilities, yes there are tonnes of weapons, yes the enemies are crazy and fun... but the gameplay... the gameplay is like every other shooter essentially with the art style of Borderlands.

Borderlands is essentially an open world FPS with a unique cartoon-ish art style. Before you star the game, you need to choose a character, each with their own specials and abilities. The game absolutely nailed their enemies and the HUD. Enemies health and level is displayed when roaming around or on a mission. Guns are almost limitless in this game, there are MANY types. This is one of the high lights of Borderlands. You can have a pistol that zooms in but causes fire damage. You can have a rifle with no zoom but has the ability to shock opponents. They have given you literally an arsenal to choose from, which seems like a disappointment when you play the game. There are scenarios where certain guns do the trick. Other scenarios, you feel like your walking aimlessly just doing another mission. The guns have a nice kick back and don't feel like they've been cheaply done. There is really no feedback (either than leveling up) that you are making progress.

No home fort to build on, no allies or enemies to make, no ability to make your own custom guns. You are able (to some limit) customize your vehicle, but cannot go further than turret type and color. I have to commend the devs for adding in vehicles in the open world. The player is able to summon a vehicle at an appropriate vehicles station. There are a lot of lockers or chests available throughout the map areas that hold money, guns, or more ammo. If you run short on ammo or health, there are vending machines also available throughout the maps. The X factor in this game is the characters special abilities. This is also the RPG element of the game where you can upgrade abilities and even sometimes add elemental damage. Different characters have different abilities : Gunzerker, dual wielding of weapons, Siren, paralyzes enemies, Commando: turret ability, Assassin: invisible and ability to create decoy and Mechomancer, summons a deathtrap.

I do like this game, but if you as a customer are looking for a game that is different than run and gun and shoot and pick up then replace yet another weapon... then your out of luck here. It is a DECENT game, but doesn't provide anything out of the ordinary from any regular FPS. It is fun playing online with randoms or with friends, I have to give it that.

Would I completely recommend this game? It depends if you want to support a diverse gaming industry. I find that when games try to give the player more control over what goes from seeming complicated to simple in a small amount of time that the learning curve is an easy one, but makes the gameplay all the better. I'm a big fan of RTS games that allow for individual FPS control (think starcraft but you could control a single marine, or a pyro, and when you die you become the guy next to him). This wasn't exactly the case, but doesn't meant I can appraise the game for what it is.

Sacrifice's storyline itself is good. In fact it's great that I won't talk about it because if your really into story telling of four gods duking it out waging wars with one another and you being the catalyst, you might like this. The gameplay itself I like for the reason the game designers had the intentions of making a FPS RTS game, they tried pushing boundaries. This game back in the day may have been phenominal, but today the gameplay leaves me to hunger for a bit more. You are a sorcerer of sorts able to casts spells to build certain buildings (mana places or soul collecting places for troops) and build units around those buildings and replenish your mana faster. Over the course of the game you come across units and similar buildings to yours, which of course you have to attack commanding your units or by your magic. Different units allow for different purposes. Mana horns I learned early on that you need them to replenish mana in the field (after dying several times... probably should have read a tutorial but ain't nobody got time for one longer than a minute)! The control scheme as well I find is easy. The only thing I would really like if they allowed you to zoom out furhter on the character.

I will give this game a .9 instead of a .7 due to it trying to break more boundaries. I find games like this allow gaming to go beyond graphics, but start looking at gameplay again (be it single player, coop, or multiplayer. They all have their own joy to offer).

RATING : 7.6/10

Age of Empires series was supposed to be the best series around - as I've read through many and many reviews. Many people recommended this game and when I saw it on sale I gave it a shot.

Basically, this game is like European Wars : Cossacks. Old style RTS.

The only downside to this Age of Empires versus the second is the way you can choose formations in the second. It felt overall the second had more to control whereas the third sort of simplified things and tried to make the game easier and smoother. AoE 3 is your typical RPG, offering peasants (or settlers), militias, markets, church's, walls and gates to protect your city. I really can't see all the hype about this game to be truthful as everyone says. Yes the campaign stories are good, but I find that this game doesn't really set itself apart from other RTS's.

If I had a choice between playing European Wars : Cossacks or this - I would most likely choose EW : Cossacks. Not to say that this game is bad, but the options that are given in EW far outweigh those of AoE for me.

I would give it an 8 if it had something to differentiate itself from other RTS of it's class, but

I bought this game as I saw many positive reviews and the trailer actually showed gameplay.

This game is cool, this game has a great idea, and this game can somewhat replace Halo for a period of time. The minecraft look turned me off from the game but after trying it, I was sold. The game plays like an action arcade with different modes (zombies, CTF, TDM etc...). I like the game for its simplicity, it's action, and the levels.

1 problem : no one plays this game. I thought OK, maybe a few servers are alive and there are a few players always lingering in the game. As this is true usually, this game is literally dead online. I've managed to squeeze in a few games, but after finishing one good luck finding another.

TO DEVS : maybe put AI into the game to fill spots? There are some of us that do want to play! Do something like 007 Nightfire did and I'm sure sales would spike, and so would the servers :)!

If I had to compare Crash Time I would say a cross between Flatout and GTA driving controls. The driving scheme is interesting, and the damage portion is not as accurate or as hard hitting as Flatout, but does give satisfaction when you hit a car at a solid speed and the instant replay starts playing (one of the features of the game). The voice acting isn't as bad as everyone says (it's just the pauses between the voices that are weird).

The gameplay itself is not bad. The game involves a lot of running around, doing missions, knocking these guys out while protecting these guys that sort of bit. Some missions are ridiculously hard and require a lot of replays (some missions can get meticulous). What's interesting is you can flick on your emergency lights, put on hazard lights, put on your turn signals - so if you like driving by the law in GTA this may be for you.

Realistically speaking though the game provides its moments of fun and overall is playable and enjoyable. As for outstanding... not so much. It seems there are opportunities where it could have been, but it missed it's glory. For a game that I bought under two bucks... I think it's about worth it.

You do get a decent game at least.

When I first bought this game I was hoping I could step off my ship... so if you're looking for that it's not here!

However, this game does bring a certain addiction with it. The gameplay is relatively simple, your ship is flown in a bigger ship that travels around a certain area of space which is controlled by different countries or factions. There is a storyline to follow and is a decent one at that. Like every game I play though I base its greatness largely on the game play. This game is about what you can expect from any first person space shooter game with a multitude of upgrades available (from armor, to weapons, to ammunition type, engines etc...). Adding the ability to dig through rock or mine adds a different paradigm to the game (... sort of. You can mine and then sell the rocks/element types). There is a different drill though if you press "m" that just rips through any asteroid in your way. This is not only pretty cool to mess with physical features of the map, but launching a few missiles also changes the shape or hole size in the asteroid.

Although I personally like playing it, for it to really stand out and be something else and differentiate itself from any other game I can't really say. It is definitely a fun game to play, and worth a buy if on sale. The amount of control you are able to have on how your ship moves/rotates/displaces itself is quite notable in this game. If you really like having control of your space craft, this is it! Beware though, some players may find this repetitive.

This game failed to catch my attention from the get go. I started playing the first level and it reminded me of playing underground in Rome from the game Assassins Creed. The problem with the reminder? Reminded me of how much pointless building jumping I did in that game, and how much more I'm about to do in Thief. Thief is essentially a first person Assassins Creed game which doesn't really offer anything new or substantial. Yes it's first person, yes you can see your hands, but is it really that amazing turning dials on a safe or cutting rope?

To me, I don't think so. I'm not even going to bother to rate.

I played this game back in 95' when it first came out and loved every second of it. I would highly recommend to buy this one on sale. Unfortunately, the user interface and menus do not hold the same nostalgia as the old one did.

Although this "new" version of the game sort of kills the nostalgia for me, it still delivers the game I knew back in the day. The menu went from looking like a war game to a kids game (my biggest issue so far besides multiplayer missing). The cut scenes alone in the campaign make this game worth it. The cut scenes were outrageous back in the day and were using language not known to many. Getting yelled at by Zod constantly will bring players back to watch more scenes.

The actual gameplay consists of an RTS territory capture sort of game. Certain territories allow for buildings to be capture which produce either vehicles or units. Vehicles and sometimes gun turrets are by territory capture flags that definitely the player wants to get to first before the computer does. The more territory a player owns, the quicker their units build. The point of the game is to destroy the enemies fortress. These fortress themselves build units but are limited in what they can manufacture. They may add defensive turrets (gatling or rocket) to bolster defense. More manufacturing options open up as the player progresses. There are robot and vehicle type units. Some robot units include grunts, psychos (rapid weapon firing) and a sniper unit. Vehicle units range from jeeps, light tanks to heavy tanks. Some maps will have jeeps and tanks placed around certain territories. Robot units must enter these vehicles whereas a unit is manufactured to drive the vehicle at the depot. Buildings cannot be placed freely in this game!

I would say buy on sale as it is an oldie and it's definitely worth the cutscenes and the gameplay (on sale may I add)! Back in the day, this game would easily deserve a rating of 8! Due to it's age and this dumb concept of porting it from the iPad :

This game is unlike anything you've played, unless it's Nuclear Dawn.

I bought this game due to the idea of being able to play RTS and FPS. Wasn't exactly what I thought it was as you can be either one or the other. It does allow for a commander in multiplayer mode and you have to actively work with your team to build new sort of "buildings" or stations. You issue the order, they physically have to go there and build it and possibly protect it. There are two opposing teams going at it at one time : humans and the parasites. Humans have their respective weapons, and you are able to choose what you would like to use from the ammo bin (once it's built)! Being the parasites takes a bit of practice to really hone control or get a kill. Parasites also come in variations as some fly, some are small and quick, some are used to build their own defensive systems. Unlike human upgrades (regarding weapons), beasts upgrade gradually when you choose to evolve them. You can get evolve points the more you successfully kill opponents. There are a lot of people saying the game has a steep learning curve (which is sort of does) but all the in-game players were more than willing to answer any immediate questions I had. The game becomes easier of course the more you play it. Do not be afraid to learn! Depending on who your commander is for your team, you can either have a great game or an okay game. One may ask who would I rather be, the beasts or the marines? To be honest, I preferred beasts at first due to the ability to climb about on walls and be invisible on creeps but over time I learned how fun it is to be a marine.

Graphics are absolutely impeccable on this one. Sounds are appropriate for the world the dev created. Makes you nervous when you start hearing things and you know your about to be attacked.

RATING : solid 8/10 - this is a must buy if it's on sale!

For future Natural Selection games : maybe have a few vehicle options (or fixed weapons placements). I understand the concept of one person in charge of a team, but the problem arises that no one wants to be the guy watching instead of playing. Maybe allow for a real-time planner?
