one of the more interesting IP crossover games ive seen (is it just multiversus and smash?) with a lot of heart and soul put into the game. characters look, sound, and feel the way they should, and there's plenty of meme references which i feel are tasteful and not over the top ridiculous. however the way they have chosen to implement rewards, and monetization are shackling the game and preventing it from achieving true greatness. ridiculously priced skins (though there are plenty of bundles which make you feel like you're getting more for your money, $20 for the more intricate ones.) i did not play in the beta and i am unaware if how theyve chosen to implement things are same or different from now, but i did hear that character prices were much lower.

there is also a PVE mode ('rifts') in the vein of smash 64 or melee's adventure mode, offering character battles, break the target, and other quick minigames which is about mobile game tier in how it presents its 'plot'. there are also bonus conditions ('prisms') in each stage which interesting at first kind of pidgeonhole you into selecting certain characters (play as a dc hero! play as a villainous hero! play as the joker, etc). while interesting at first, it quickly becomes a drag because each rift has about 4 or 5 tiers of difficulty, and each and every stage has a prism for 'bring a friend!' so unless you play every stage with a friend, you're not getting all of the prisms on your first runthrough. the one saving grace is that i believe that with how many prisms there are per stage, you should be able to get 100 and get the reward for that difficulty if you are a solo player. i haven't reached the final difficulty yet but i am told there is a 'lives' system for the highest tier which if you lose a match, you must expend a life. lives can be regenerated through waiting a set amount of time (like a mobile game) or buy spending gleamium (the game's premium currency) for more.

on the pvp side of things i feel most characters are good but at the time of writing this there are a few characters that are broken/buggy in some way that can ruin a match by softlocking it. matches go by quick so even if you get SMASHED and SLAMMED into the dirt, you can just pick yourself up and get back into a new match. ive only recently dug into the pvp, but im told also that the game feels much different and not quite as good as it was in the beta due to framelocks or something or other, i am not entirely sure.

TL;DR
*character unlocks will feel slow as a f2p player unless you do your dailies
*tons of monetization, though if you purchase the battlepass you will accumulate enough premium currency to make the $10 you might have spent back
*interesting character roster
*PVE feels pretty grindy
*it is fun but i would not recommend unless you are ok with the various issues outlined/do not plan to spend money/etc

fun but tedious

afaik there is no way to remotely access your inventory, its all done by interacting with your cart buddy but the tedium kicks in here. lets say you want to smelt some scrap into something. you have to walk over to your chest/cart and grab some wood, put one piece and throw the remainder on the ground (because you can only insert 1 piece at a time) and then go back to the cart/chest and grab some scrap. like the wood you can only place one piece in at a time, so unless you build more furnaces you're going to be doing this for a little bit
