Overall I really like this game, along with Enemy Unknown.

My one critisism is that it feels really unbalanced at times. Some missions seem super difficult when it seems like they shouldn't be. Then there are the missions that are supposed to be hard, but sometimes seem fairly easy. Usually it's the former. I hope the balance gets worked out in further updates, or with mods. Many missions are timed in the number of terms you can have to successfully compleye the mission, and that can compond the difficulty. For clarification, I've been playing the game on the 'normal' difficulty, one above the easiest setting.

EDIT 5/15/2016: I completed the game to the end. Some of the balance concerns worked its self out as I got to get better at the game and got upgraded weapons and armor. I'm going through a second playthrough and I found that upgrading the armor and weapons as soon as I can to the second tier makes a big diffrence. If anyone is having trouble with the difficulty I recommend these upgrades (research then building in engineering) as soon as possible, or at least before you start to get into the midgame. The timers still are a bit annoying sometimes, imo. The late-game I found sometimes should be more difficult. Once you're fully upgraded it's significantly easier to survive and defeat the enemies.

Comments on the story: One thing that isn't completely clear is how XCOM lost the first war. It isn't really specified if it happens part way through the first game or if it was after the first game's ending, where the ending was just a setback. Most people say it's the former, but it's never clarified out in-game. Maybe it's explained later than I am at and managed to avoild spoilers.

The graphics and audio are excellent. You need a decent video card to handle the game on its highest settings, however. With my 670 I sometimes get slowdowns during the loading screen and sometimes in the avenger, but while it's not always at 60 fps, it generally runs well in the missions.

XCOM 2 has good mod support. I look forward to seeing what some people come up with.

EDIT 5/15/2016: I've been trying a few mods. It's still early days for modding XCOM 2, but they are coming in. Some of the voice packs are very amusing. I recommend trying the characters from Saints Row 3 and 4.

Some people have been complaining about game-breaking bugs. While I've had a few bugs come up in combat, so far I've been lucky to avoid anything game-breaking. Bugs that I have had have been mostly graphically, like a soldier or enemy moving really slow for their turn (as if they were constantly dodging an overwatch) or out-of-sync animations, like it showing a building being blown up before the character shoots a rocket. I've had the game crash on me, but so far it's only been about two times.

This game is rediculous in many ways, although that's not uncommon for the Saints Row games.

Like the previous Saints Row games it has humor and lots of it. It's really the main reason why I play them. Many things about the game are completely over the top, but in a way that is amusing. The visuals and great voice acting contribute a lot to this. The characters are all likable and the story is interesting. If you played the previous games it ties back and revisits many of the events that have taken place earlier. As the world of which the game takes place in is more open to unreal and weird things the developers took this to heart and made some truly strange missions and events. These are mostly in the main quests.

It's the 'nature' of SRIV that makes it worth playing. It's generally just fun to play and fool around in. That's good because there are other aspects of the game that aren't so great.

Some things I don't like all that much:

Game balance is a problem. The super powers are what I blame for this. The 'super powers' are fun at times, but they tend to make the game often too easy, and you gain them quickly. They really should reduce the effectiveness of the powers and speed at which you get them. The game is still challenging at times, but it often feels like you can swoop in and kill all the bad guys in a minute without breaking a sweat. It can be fun to be this super powerful super hero-like person (go and get a good costume to match!) but if you have all these powers and the enemies don't scale to keep it challenging the game can become less engaging. On the positive side, there are some fun mini-games that you can put your powers to good use!

The atmosphere and immersion of the game is also a problem. Things look pretty generic to me. Steel Port doesn't really feel like a place that I want to spend the time to explore. Componding this, once you get super speed and jumping powers you really don't need to spend time exploring. Just race across the map. Again, the powers are fun at times, but it detracts from the immersion of the city. Why steal a car or take time to explore when you can dash across the map and get to your objective so much faster? Furthermore, SRIV takes place in the same 'location' (or map) as Saints Row the Third does. It's pretty much exactly the same. I wish they spent the time to create a new map, like DC. If you played through the Third it makes it that less compelling to explore.

I noticed all these issues while playing, but I felt the story, characters, and just plain over-the-topness of the game kept me interested in continuing to play. They could have made the game even better if they spent more times working out the balance issues to make it more 'passively' entertaining.

Conclusion / TLDR

Overall, my recommendation is to give the game a try. The story, characters, voice acting, and main quests are fun and entertaining. I would stick to the main story quests and the character's personal quests. There are side-missions you can do, but they can get a bit repetative. The city isn't that exciting when it comes to lingering, exploring, or doing things like stealing cars. The powers are fun and convenient, but ultimately detracts from immersion and makes the game much easier as the enemies don't scale to compensate. If you're concerned about getting the best end, what you need is to complete all the chacter's personal quests before the final quest.

I also recommend playing Saints Row the Third. That game is better when it comes to parts of the gameplay that the super powers hurt in IV, and IV is a good follow-up to the Third.

It's a bit disappointing there isn't multiplayer included in this expansion, but it makes a good single-player game. The campain adds some background to Yuriko, and the commander challenges are tough and fun.

My favorite aspect of Uprising are the Commander Challenges. If you are an RTS vet you'll want to give them a try. They can be challenging and fun to play. The enemy commanders bring along some humor as well. If you're new to RTSs and RA3 you'll probably want to practice first, or play some of the RA3 and RA3U compains as they'll be difficult for new players and there are no difficulty settings. Having a good knowledge of the units and choosing how to attack is important in most of these missions, and in cases where there are more than one enemy managing the balance of power can be important to ensure one doesn't get too powerful, as you unlock units as you complete missions.

I honestly thought this was going to be a bad attempt to copy SimCity before I bought this game, but my friends and other reviews convinced me to try it regardless. I'm glad I did. It's a well thoughtout game and extremely addicting. I couldn't ask for much more from a city simulator (where's the disastors?).

If you are SimCity fan or just curious about city simulators I highly recommend giving this a go.

Also, it's mod friendly!

Now if you excuse me, I have some traffic to monitor and optimize.

Great game. It is an excellent example of an open-world RPG and there is always new things to be found. You can progress through the story, or just mess around and do random quests and exploring. There is lots of rich and interesting lore to explore. It's easy to lose lots of hours to this game.

One of the other greatest strengths of Skyrim are the mods. There is a strong modding community that can dramaticly change and add new features, characters, locations, behavior, and cosmetics. The sky's the limit. Mods can be found here on Steam, from Nexus, or many other places on the internet.

Skyrim does have some weaknesses, however. The character is a mute protagonist with no background. This is common for Elder Scroll games, as it leaves the charcter 'more up to the user's imagination', but it does feel a bit less polished and imcomplete these days, like compared to a game such as Dragon Age Inquisition. There also is very little character development for the NPCs in the world, which makes it difficult to really connect and sympethize with many of the characters. Even a character like Lydia, who you may keep with you for most of the game, you'll know very little about. The one exception is probably Serana, from Dawnguard, who has a bit more developed out history and more a complex AI and world interaction. Much of Dawnguard revolves around her and her family. I wish Skyrim had more characters as well developed as her, but thankfully there are third-party mods that introduce some more great npcs and companions. I recommend checking out Arissa, my personal favorite 3rd-party follower, who has a developed backstory and is very well voice acted. She's a charcter who's better than most of the characters in the actual game.

Despite the few shortcomings it's still a very excellent game. It's very non-linear and the vanilla game experience its self will keep you busy for a long time, and beyond that there is much more to do with mods.

Dark Forces feels fairly dated now, but I played this game over and over countless times as a kid. I loved the the story and the Star Wars atmosphere and the beginnings of one of my favorite expanded universe characters - Kyle Katarn. If you are a Star Wars fan, I recommend giving Dark Forces at try, then move on to its sequals: Jedi Knight, Mysteries of the Sith, Jedi Outcast, and Jedi Academy.

When it comes to the aspects of video games that I feel important and needed to engross me in it, Alan Wake hits these all on the mark for me. Great story, great voice acting, good music, and fantastic visuals. All bring together to what I think is an excellent example of how video game producers can portray a story and put you into it in a way that other mediums can't.

Easily one of the best stories and voice acting found in a video game. It requires patience, with hours of dialog, but once you get caught up in TLJ's world and story you'll understand why fans are so excited for Dreamfall Chapters.
