Here it is now: Hyper Light Breaker!
I have loved the overall feel and the world of Hyper Light Drifter and was really excited for this game in the days leading up to its launch. So, how is it?

What I like
  • Beautiful graphics and clean UI
  • Already lovely world and character designs. Going from 2D pixel-style to 3D is a massive undertaking and they are on a good path!
  • Brutal combat that punishes mistakes but still feels rewarding over time, especially when parrying or using AMPs. This is not for everyone though.
  • The variety in enemies and things to explore.
  • The feel of the dash and many abilities.
  • Using the hoverboard and glider is a lot of fun.

What I think should be improved
  • You start with 0 medkits. I think thats a poor design choice, espeically for new players. You should have at least one that fully restores health and be given a free one every time you enter the Overgrowth.
  • Buying a medkit should not become more expensive. Either bind the price to the level but the current system feels unfair.
  • There should be a reliable way to farm medpoints.
  • There need to be more settings. Graphics, Controls, you name it. Keybinds are semi-broken.
  • Enemies just start attacking all at once with little chance to seperate them.
  • Heavy Blades feel very underwhelming due to the vulnerability while swinging.
  • I'd like to be able to spend more time in the Overgrowth. It should take longer for the difficulty bar to fill.

In all honesty, it still has a long way to go but the visuals are already gorgeous and I am happy to get to see more of the fascinating world of HL and all thats yet to come.

Down you go oh bright sun
Time to let the night in
For my legs are heavy
Field is not inviting
Legs become too heavy
Hands become too weary
Down you go oh bright sun
Night is not that scary
Hide behind the dark woods
While we're running barefoot
You will rise again tomorrow
Make the morning dew glow

Truly amazing game and the most fun I had in years playing with all my friends!
The devs continue to show how much they care and provide update and fix after fix.
Their communication is usually top-notch too.

Which is I am so surprised by the current announcement and its wording. Seems like Sony/PlayStation is trying hard to enforce the account link.

I spent almost 30min when I first got the game initially trying to link my Steam account to my old PSN account but kept receiving errors. Not like I wanted to do it so I was happy to notice that I wasn't required to go through this hassle.
To think that a PSN account will be required in the future seems like a major heap of corporate ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

[EDIT 06.05.2024: We won, for now. ]

This is the kind of quality that I would have expected from a full-on Valve re-release of Portal 2! I am not exaggerating when I say that this is probably the most fun I had with a game in a long time. And this was only made by 5 core devs and ~12ish people in total based off of the credits! Truly incredibly work here.
I especially want to highlight the INSANE level to detail in all of those environments. These devs took the whole "behind-the-secenes" and semi-broken-down / overgrown look from Portal / Portal 2, made it even more gorgeous. Pure Engineering Porn right there. Love it. Also the voice acting was really good. Sure, one or two lines were a little shaky at times but you guys still delivered a super fun VA! This game is a must-play for all Portal fans and everyone who enjoys puzzles, sentient robots and silly science shenanigans.

You guys did what you must because you could.

This is some random player,
we're done here.

Starfield is a fair bit of fun and has some great things to offer, however it really isn't the innovative game I (and seemingly many other players) had hoped for. Content-wise I am mostly happy so far, but I strongly feel like it lacks greatly in immersion due to the aging engine and the many many loading-screens it brings with it. I would not advocate for only having "realistic" travel-modes like in StarCitizen or EliteDangerous, but only having a quick-travel style way of getting from A to B with loading-screens instead of sequences really hurts the immersion.
