Bought this in its Early Access phase hoping I would be able to contribute to its development. Voiced out that the Deathmatch mode was pretty ridiculous in that it had tracks that are as long as the ones in the campaign. It fell on deaf ears.

Why is this important?

You're in a RACING game. But you're also in a deathmatch mode. If you go well ahead of the pack, it would result in you not seeing anyone else; nothing to shoot at. So you've to slow down just so you can achieve the mode's objectives of shooting down X number of competitors.

Slowing down in a racing game. Let that sink in.

A few weeks later, it came out of EAccess; it seems they've deemed it to be a "finished" product.

I bought this because I loved the F-Zero for the Game Boy Advance. It doesn't even come close.

A friend gave this to me so I suppose checking the "Check this box if you received this product for free" should be the logical choice. That said, I'd like to repeat it again: The devs didn't give me the game; a friend did.

Now for my mini-review:

I'm all for walking simulators but I find the sparse environs too boring. The enemy encounters aren't scary and while the atmosphere is very compelling it does succeed in recreating that lonely feel of a lone mountaineer traversing a frigid landscape. I feel that Kholat doesn't capitalize on what are supposed to be its strengths---the atmosphere is powerful and convincing but it's boring; there are creepy encounters but they are far too few.

The game isn't that bad but after 2.4 hours I found it boring. The enemy encounters are too few and the navigation system proved frustrating for me. If you're into walking simulators and horror games that aren't too stressful, give this a go. If you're like me and are easily bored, you might want to wait this to go on a sale before buying.

If you've an overkill system you probably won't need this. Strangely enough, I was getting minimal performance gains from DOOM with this one but with EA's Crysis 3, it has helped A LOT with smoothing out the game.

Not the type you would go "oooh!" and "aaaah!" about but it does have some very engrossing gameplay. My only issue is that when you're playing against the computer, you need to do some fancy keyboard work keeping your fingers flying across the keyboard as you do everything you can to keep the AI from hindering your progress while you inflict as much havoc on its convoy. It's not the best but it IS a fun game.

I still think the amount of console-ization just sucks monkey balls but Crysis 2 is one of the very few games that made me applaud in the last seconds of their epilogue.

Its story won't win the Pulitzer but by video game standards, it more than rocks.

Buying Crysis 3 soon as I take care of some gargantuan priorities.

A game that lets you build bases, manage funds, reverse engineer alien equipment AND THEN equip your own soldiers with them for the operatives to use in turn-based skirmishes that form a terrifying, edge-of-your-seat campaign? Hell yes!

Is Avernum: Escape from the Pit worth its 10-dollar price tag? At more than 90 hours of gaming on my first playthrough across a vast 2D, isometric, nostalgia-inducing landscape filled with interesting locations peppered with lairs, strongholds, and powerful artifacts that only the most intrepid will discover, Avernum: Escape from the Pit is definitely worth its price of admission. Add to this almost peerless writing and it’s easy to see why I’m regarding this game as one of the best in my collection.

Ratings:

Tilt: 8.5 – Given that I’ve spent almost 92 hours in this game and finished it, I can say Avernum: Escape from the Pit is something else. I’ve spent several sleepless nights over this one, only quitting when I realized the sun was starting to rise. Spiderweb Software has some topnotch writers.

Gameplay: 8.0 – If you’re talking about pure gameplay alone, Avernum suffers from some design choices like making you too powerful near the end of the game and other foibles like recycled sprites and unclickable tiles. Still it does provide a fun romp that even shines head and shoulders from some games that have triple A funding.

Graphics: 6.0 – It’s here that Avernum really suffers. With only a 2D isometric engine, the game really can’t hope to match more recent RPGs like say, The Age of Decadence. Its art style, while very good, is nothing to write home about either; it just doesn’t have anything that makes it stand out from the multitude of RPGs out there in the visuals department.

Audio: 7.5 – Adequate but again, there’s nothing that makes it stand out. If only they made background music as impressive as the one used when the main menu fires up though…

Replayability: 8.5 – This is a pretty divisive point. On one, retro gamers will love replaying this game that lets you relive the good ‘ol days of the 90s. On the other side of the coin, younger gamers may be put off by its visuals and despite its multiple endings, may consider this game a one-shot affair. There’s also the matter of its length: gamers who love protracted adventures blasting hordes of undead and fantastical creatures will find this game up their alley while ones who are easily distracted by new releases might find this one to be a stubborn guest that overstays its welcome. I’m somewhere in the middle but I’m definitely going to unravel its other endings so I’m giving this an 8.5.

Victor Vran is a unique hack-and-slash game with dodge mechanics. It also has skill kits that change with whatever weapon you're using that you can combine with your other powers, making it a game with a wide array of character customization paths.

It's an unarguably one of the more unique ARPGs, setting it head and shoulders above all the run-of-the-mill Diablo clones out there. To get a taste of how it plays, here's a gameplay video:
