Look how they massacred my boy

You're 18 years old, just finished basic training and this is your first active battle.
Anxious you sit in the trench waiting for the whistle that signals the beginning of the attack.
Cautiously you stick your head out of the trench to try and spot enemies before they spot you.
You see no one and there it is, the signal for attack. "FOR THE KAISER" you scream as you jump out of the trench running to the enemy lines BAMM... You didn't look good enough. Some Frenchman you didn't see applied a nice round of lead directly to your chest.
Doesn't matter, respawn, this time you're gonna take cover sooner.
You stick your head out again before jumping out of the tren... AAAND you're dead. An enemy sniper just waited for a freshling to lift his head like an idiot.
Ok, this time you'll be REALLY cautious.
You jump out of the trench, run as fast as humanly possible to the first wreck of an abandoned tank that you can see and use it as cover. Only 30 meters to the enemy trench you think, I'm gonna crawl closer on my stomach so that they won't spot me. Now 5 Meters from enemy lines the dirt from bullets landing everywhere around you rains down on your face, you take the pin out of your grenade to clear yourself a path into the british trench. You get ready to throw, get up on your feet and BAM, some guy with his shotgun just decided that your bowels look way better outside of your body. You topple to the ground, your grenade exploding next to you without ever leaving your hand.
Frustrated after respawn you decide that you're gonna use another guy as human shield, running directly behind him so that any bullet coming your way will be absorbed by this poor guy but not by you. You two make decent progress through no man's land when suddenly he collapses leaving you vulnerable. "DOWN" you think slamming your body to the ground before whoever got this guy has the time to aim for you too.
While laying there you realize that your position ain't that bad, having a decent view into an enemy pillbox without really exposing yourself. So you poisition yourself perfectly, take aim and just wait for some unlucky french, british, american, inidan or whatever guy to cross your line of sight. No one's gonna spot you before it's to late. But wait what's that whistling sound above you?
That sound was an artillery shell sparating you, your lower abdomen and your limbs and spreading all of that over a radius of 30 meter.
Like this you respawn and die again and again and again. Sometimes a Sniper get's you, sometimes you cross the path of a machine gun, sometimes you get stuck in barbed wire exposing you to the fire of some NCO's revolver, sometimes you take aim but the guy on the other side simply aimed faster.

Then finally you and 5 other guys manage to infilitrate the enemy trench after heavy artillery cleared your path. As a flamethrower grills allied forces left and right you stay behind to make sure that no one get's your group from behind. But suddenly a small explosion and hissing can be heard. TOXIC GAS, you get to the ground and fumble with you hand to put your mask on before the gas starts to suffocate you from the inside.
What a mistake that was, with mask in your hand and rifle to the side you feel a bayont entering your back, pushing through your lungs and leaving your chest on the front.
20 minutes and 17 deaths later the battle ends and both teams still hold the same position since surprisingly no one could gain an inch of ground by running directly into machine gun fire and exploding grenades.


Time to stop playing, deinstall and never start this game again. "Never" in this case meaning 2 hours before the itching NEED to capture enemy land for the Kaiser and Vaterland arises once again.


9/10 would die on the fields of Verdun again.
Would be a 10/10 if they'd add trenchfoot, malaria, shell shock, getting burried alive by debris, more shell shock & pneumonia to round up the real WW1 feeling.
