Goto #1

The ratio between the gameplay and non-gameplay is horrible.
Gameplay itself is ok, for a Quake shooter it's relatively slow paced but feels decent enough.
Good networking code that seems to handle my high ping/high jitter 4G connection just fine.
Weapon identification icons are really abstract and can sometimes get me confused but you can get used to it with some practice.

The free 2 play concept is not too horrible and the fact you need to buy/unlock heroes might be offputting but the differences between the heroes are so minimal you can always get a free to play one that'll work and you just save buying your first character until you really miss one of the characters you might've gotten used to or find attracting.

Overall I found the game nothing specially attractive and found myself dreading to sign in to get the daily bonus after just a week of this. Especially if some of the rewards required some other game mode than deathmatch you'll be doubling your game search time listed above.

Played during free weekend.

This feels like it should be a free to play game, plenty of micro-transactions and would help with ensuring it stays alive/fresh and can grow it's agent lineup.

Not all mechanics are quite obvious and require some experience to learn. Should be communicated better with player which actions are detectable by others.

While it certainly has room to grow and polish up, the gameplay and mechanics seem to be in place if this sort of game is your cup. Would be nice to have some automation elements, maybe some entities to allow automatic switching etc based on the train / cargo detected?

Keeps crashing and losing you stuff.
Also during game I often have to wait for next chunks of the map to load.

Solid teamplay with highly challenging gameplay (once you're ready to ramp up the difficulty).

Well maintained and expanded upon by the devs, no pay to win. DLC is cosmetics to support the developer.

An initial promising start and a good track record of providing updates however after the break on updates (sometime after Horizons before the legs-in-space) they went back to this game (good) but due to on foot focus they decided to drop the VR experience for Odyssey.

This was really a big setback and they have split the community in two between the Horizons and Odyssey dlc packs. I then stopped playing for over 2-3 years.

Recent developments such as new ship types and more Thargoid content made me decide to check out the Odyssey content more deeply. (2024)

So far I find the aggro/detection mechanisms a bit weird and inconsistent.
Some mission types require you to go and pickup items in lockers and provide you the code and the item itself is not illegal to take but somehow you still have to dodge guards and get different security levels via illegal means to be able to complete your missions. The line between illegal/legal actions is very confusing.

Another big drawback I found is that multi-crewing does not allow you to go outside of the ship together. This feels like a really big miss in promoting cooperative play.

Overall I'm finding fun again in playing and discovering some of the new content in this growing and working big space simulator/opera.

It can be a bit overwhelming for newcomers but in general I would say the community is friendly and willing to help someone out. That does not mean you won't get killed/schooled harshly if you're doing objectives that collide with that same friendly person from before. All part of the "role play" which could really benefit from a bit more frivolous details of things to do in stations/outposts while on foot.

The premise sounds good, the technology was a breakthrough back then, graphics look quite sharp.
The implementation lacks detail though, feels very lackluster and sterile.

Playerbase is very minimal (I really hate bringing this up) and just fighting the AI doesn't give much satisfaction nor much chance to learn from people what to do and how to do it effectively.

Ever played dirtybomb ? Same grind/cash-grabbing style of game where upgrades have nigh-zero durability and expire/wear out after some rounds. Shooting mechanics are kinda dry and game suffers from micro-stutters.

Maps are tiny and are just basic meat grinder style.

Former cash grab turned Steam tombstone.

Buyer beware.
