An instant classic; JRPG combat with a Souls-like twist, great story, and one of the best soundtracks of the past decade or more.

This is the Starship Troopers Warhammer 40K Payday in space generic sci-fi co-op game that we have been waiting for.

This is an 'once-in-a-genration' game.

It is absolutely great. The world is alive and reactive like a few other RPGs; everyone and everything has a purpose. Every one of your actions leads to some consequences; from people hating you to losing companions to experiencing a completely different story than others. Even early on in the game, you see how your choices matter. I have been playing on 3 separate campaigns and each has been progressing so differently than the other

Unlike other cRPGs, BG3 does not punish you if you go down a diplomatic non-violence route. However, if you end up in a battle, expect some of the best turn-base combat since XCom. At every turn, you need to manage your resources: travel distance, action(s), and bonus action(s). You can interact with the environment—in fact, in higher difficulties, you have to—such as to gain an advantage. Is an enemy near a cliff? Throw them off. Is there a fire nearby? Dip your weapon into it for bonus damage. Is there water? Use lightning to electrocute anyone standing in it. Some DnD 5E purists may cringe at some of the changes from the tabletop version. However, I believe that Larian did a good job at interpreting the 5E rules such as they make sense in a video game.

I wish there was a neutral option. The game, at its current state, is a great single-player game. There is already plenty of content and Gloomhaven's amazing combat mechanics were well translated. Unfortunately, the multiplayer is, at time of writing, broken. From the ~5-6 hours on record, 3 of those were lost waiting for someone to reconnect or me trying to do so. While this is an Early Access and bugs are expected, the Developer seems to prioritising additional features (e.g. mod support) than fine tuning existing ones.
I hope, over the course of this year, that the multiplayer gets to a playable state. When it does, I will gladly pour hours into it with friends (and update this review).

It is Halo. If you have never played Halo, you should. Both gameplay and story are top notch.

Last time I tried to play a Europa Universalis was back in 2007. The game's scope appealed to me. However, due to its sheer complexity and my lack of patient at spending hours and hours at reading guides, I gave up on it. A month or so ago, I decided to give EU IV a try.

I completed the quite-easy in-game tutorials and then started my own campaign. At first, all the mechanisms --most of which the tutorials do not really teach you of-- hit me in the face. It hurt, but instead of giving up, I watched ~10 hours worth of YouTube tutorials and gave it another try. I am glad that I was persistent. The game is highly addicting and immersive. It has been a while since I last paused from a game only to find to out that it is 3am! There are quite simply so many different ways to play the game, so many different nations/religions/types of government each with its own little differences and gameplay mechanics.

Do you want to become a colonising nation? You can do that. Do you want to become a global trade power? It is of course possible. Do you want to lead your religion's countries into holly wars? Yep. Do you want to create an alternate history universe where the Byzantine Empire lives on, USA never happened, and Africa nations are the world's great powers? It will take some good planning, but it is possible! In short, there is quite simply "no right way to play this game." As long as you know which mechanisms/buttons/sliders to use and when, you play the game the way you want to.

Negatives:
1) I had to watch 10+ hours of tutorials done by third parties. This shows, in my opinion, bad in-game tutorial design.
2) Lots of DLCs, most which are quite expensive for what they add: a couple of revamps or other small features that could have been part of a free update (e.g. a button to abdicate the hair).

If you have played and like Borderlands, you will enjoy it. If you haven't play any Borderlands (BL) game before, you are better off starting with the first one. In my opinion, this has the worst storyline narrative in the main series (if you don't count the "Pre-sequel"). Still, the story is fun and there are plenty of moments that you laugh or think of how the game critiques the real world, e.g. the not subtle role of influences and social media.

In terms of gameplay, this is BL2 on steroids: more variety of locations, more guns, more explossions, more vehicles, more of pretty much everything (spoiler alert: more bugs too). After nearly 70 hours, I am nearly the end of the first run. I probably have another 50-60 hours, thanks to the True Vault-Hunter Mode, Mayhem mode, DLCs, and the in-game events organised by Gearbox every now and then.

So far, I have been mostly positive in my reviews. Yet, I decided not to recommend it. Why? Well, the reasons are twofold:
1) The game was rushed and a year after its release, it still feels like that. The PC version is simply a bad port. Don['t get me wrong, this is far from the worst port I have seen the past few years. In fact, it runs fairly good on my rig (i7 5960X, 32GB RAM, GTX 1080). However, there are plenty of minor bugs there and here.
In the main UI, not all menus work with mouse clicks (for whatever reason) or at least sometimes it does not register mouse clicks and button labels are missing (tip: "R" shows you all objectives related to area). In the main map, in most areas will end up with crazy numbers like "124% completion", but in others you end up with a "99%" even if you have done all objectives listed. Speaking about the map, you will find out that the text/interactive overlay over the map itself is out of alignment. Based on what I have read online, this is an issue limited to ultrawide users since December 2019 (May 2020 and it is not fixed). It also took me some time to tweak my mouse sensitivity, as the game is meant to be played with the slower-moving analog sticks of modern-age console controllers. You also have in-game bugs, including enemies spawning between fences and doing absolutely nothing more than stand there or outside the quest completion area (this is an issue in the Circle of Slaughter arenas, where you can't exist the said area unless you forfeit all of your progress). Not all achievements are working; particularly the survey ones are getting reset even if you have all 223 locations discovered.
After 90+ hours, I have also experienced a few game-breaking ones (e.g. gun appearing at the middle of the screen or shooting not working), which were resolved by reloading.
2) I am not impressed by GearBox's payroll practices. You can read more about this online, but apparently GearBox is backing away from its original golden handshake with its employees: work overtime now for little pay and receive big bonuses later. While this might be part of a great discussion about employees rights in the gaming industry, I do think that we, as consumers, need to do our bit and vote with wallet against such practices.

Are these good enough reasons not to recommend the game? Maybe, maybe not. However, Steam enforces a binary recommendation system, where a neutral score is not possible, and I hope that a decrease in sales may force GearBox reevaluate both how it handles bug fixes and its relationship with its employees.
