It's weird. It's vulgar. It's violent. It's funny.

It's from those folks behind Rick and Morty. What did you expect?

While on a thrill-seeking vacation somewhere off the coast of Turkey, Daphne and her rich, spoiled friends visit a remote island in the Mediterranean Sea. Soon after, they are kidnapped and separated. Finding herself alone in this beautiful but hostile place, our heroine must try to discover the truth of what has happened. Can she uncover the secrets the island hides and find a way back home or, like so many others who have stumbled upon this place, will she Die Young?

In early access for quite some time, the game received a multitude of updates along the way. I played it occasionally for much of its development and every update brought needed and welcome improvements. The final version added a surprisingly large amount of content and added immense areas to explore. While it shares many elements with other games, Die Young has its own unique style. I enjoyed it from the start, but it must be noted that it has design and gameplay components that not everyone will enjoy. A substantial portion of the game requires the player to free-climb to great heights, including jumping from high ledges and traversing a plethora of cliffs and similar locales while gripping narrow handholds with just your fingertips. While many other games involve climbing mechanics, Die Young is the only one I have played that makes me nervous when these areas must be conquered. Many of these spots proved extremely challenging for me (think sweaty palms and queasy stomach) but the story was compelling enough to push myself past them. If you suffer from vertigo or a fear of heights, this may not be the game for you. If you do enjoy such things, however, you will be in free-climbing, parkour heaven.

At this time, Die Young has been officially released but it continues to receive updates. The developers have listened to the players and implemented a great many improvements and it is encouraging that they continue to polish the game. Having said that, it should be mentioned that Die Young is an ambitious game from a small studio. They deserve praise for what they have produced but do not expect a AAA title. The game is quite beautiful and for the most part, runs well, but it still has a few drawbacks that keep it from earning the highest marks. But, for the price, Die Young is a whole lot of game and a whole lot of fun.

Imagination can be a powerful thing.

In this free, bite-sized game, we get a taste of what’s to come in Life Is Strange 2. Chris is a young boy who dreams of being a hero with super powers. We get a glimpse into his life on one snowy Saturday as he builds the costume for his alter ego, Captain Spirit.

As we wander his small house and yard, we learn a bit about who this little boy is and what his life is like. I imagine that, like myself, many players will find connections here that may be unexpected. Playing as Chris, we experience some touching, poignant moments as well as some that may be unsettling.

The game is short but compelling. It offers several short missions that award in-game achievements. Seeing everything there is to see would require more than one playthrough. For what it is, (an enticement for the next installment of Life is Strange) it is very effective. I want to find out what happens to this character. After playing this game, Life is Strange 2 has become a game I don’t want to miss.

If you enjoyed the other Life is Strange games, you should definitely check out The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit! It’s free, so you can’t beat that, and besides, you need to play Hawt Dawg Man at least once!
