Intro:
Easily one of the deepest and most engaging sandbox games, Terraria perfectly blends RPG and sandbox survival elements.
Positive Aspects
#1: RPG Elements - Beyond its surface-level references and homages to classic games, especially jRPGs, Terraria also features systems that evoke RPG stats systems and jRPG collectible weapons, armor and accessories.
#2: Simple But Effective - Terraria is chock full of simple systems, including point and click combat, NPC rooms, result-based crafting and two-layered tile-based building. These let players pick up mechanics quickly, and the layering of these systems allow for complex mechanics.
#3: Charm and Style - From the Lovecraftian, horrific writhing masses of Terraria's bosses to the charming, warm, often cute pixel art of the furniture, critters and NPCs, the art design presents a variety of different aesthetics, each of which is delicately and expertly crafted and astoundingly, blend together incredibly well.
#4: Compelling Progression - As the player progresses, the game world unfolds, opening new avenues for progression. Getting new gear in Terraria is delightfully addicting in the best possible way, as it almost always feels new, cool, and exciting.
#5: Awesomely Replayable - As a sandbox game and RPG hybrid, Terraria can be played again and again and again and again, and I wholeheartedly recommend doing so.
Negative Aspects
#1: For all its glory, Terraria can get tripped up in its own complexity, with certain features underdeveloped and others hard to access.
Final Verdict:
Standard: ★★★★★☆☆☆☆☆

Pros: +★★★★★
Cons: -★

Final Score: ★★★★★★★★★☆ - If Terraria isn't in your library, you should fix that. I can't recommend Terraria enough.

Intro
Despite being based around a gimmick, and being fairly outdated at this point, Impossible Creatures is a solid game, with a strong community and interesting core concept.
Positive Aspects
#1: Solid Foundation - First and foremost, Impossible Creatures is built on top of a very solid RTS framework, with simple quality-of-life features that even games like Starcraft lack. If the game was even the slightest bit cumbersome, it certainly wouldn't have stuck in my mind through all these years as well as it did.
#2: Creatures - The core of Impossible Creatures is based around a gimmick, yes, but not so much so that the game suffers from it. The roster of stock creatures that get used in the game's units are varied and interesting, and army creation feels very open and creative for it, but not so much so that trying to play against someone is utter chaos because you can't tell what any of their creatures can do.
#3: Map Design - Often in RTS games, maps can either feel too open or too cramped. Impossible Creatures hits a very sweet middle ground where the maps are varied enough to be interesting in their own right, while still providing enough distance to have fun in, while not putting any players out in the middle of nowhere.
#4: Campaign - Campaigns are often overlooked in RTS games, but the story of Rex and Lucy, while simple, is a VERY effective way to introduce both new RTS players to the genre, and veterans to the specific challenges presented in Impossible Creatures.
Negative Aspects
#1 Balance - Impossible Creatures, due to the customizable nature of its units, would be very difficult to balance, of course. However, this doesn't excuse the fact that the game is very unbalanced, and multiplayer is shot in the foot by a repetitive cast of reused creatures in a game about varied and customizable armies. Luckily, one of the core features of the Tellurian mod, available here, is a wonderful and still active (circa. 2019) continuous balancing effort.
#2: Performance - Being very outdated at this point, Impossible Creatures is prone to crashes and even lag, likely due to the game being built for operating systems for almost two decades ago.
Final Verdict
Standard: ★★★★★☆☆☆☆☆

Pros: +★★★★
Cons: -★★

Final Score: ★★★★★★★☆☆☆ - Worth a buy, if you like RTS games, especially if you play with mods.
