A wonderful game that came to bring life to the FGC. it's the perfect blend of depth and easy to understand mechanics. I can't wait to see the meta of the game, as many of the mechanics take time to master, particularly defensive ones. I can't recommend this game enough.

This game did what no triple AAA or strategy game did. It got me invested by the sheer power of gameplay mechanics. Yes this game looks like a flash game, yes it looks very basic, but trust me, the blend of management, tactics and the good difficulty is a charm. I wish there was another game by the same developer, with pixel art style, grim setting and same mechanics, it's that good. You owe it to yourself to play this.

Early Access Review
I had to write this review. This game is beautiful and a very unique experience. I would encourage anyone to play this with a controller, as it is a diametrically different experience. There's a mystique about it I can't explain and the combat, oh the combat! There's a lot to look forward to with the leveling system and how the game has you coming back for more. This game reminds of that 90s yearning for Diablesque or Conanesque worlds, where there is beauty in harshness and desolation in abundance. The art is very 90s. This type of art that details an expansive world. Robed royalty and peasants in tatters around the cities makes this world alive but at the same time, you can feel the struggle. Others have spoken at length about the gameplay. I just wanted to talk more about the feel and beauty of the game. It's a masterpiece already in EA and if the devs continue to further develop it, it will be something rarely seen.

This game deserves all the praise in the world. I love streets of rage 4, but this game makes me feel happy like comix zone made me feel. It's just pure joy and the enemies are so original. I love the banshees. Please expand upon this beautiful game. Congratulations!

I rarely write up reviews for the games I play, but this game now holds a special place in my heart. after 30 hours or so I started playing hollow knight (now 7 hours in) just to compare both games, and I have to say that Aeterna Noctis is better in my view. The only thing that keeps it from greatness, is the main character's design, the main menu interface, which can sometimes appear not so instinctive, and some other minor design choices, but other than that, the game is a masterpiece. I'm so sad it's not getting the recognition it deserves. I understand that most likely the developers didn't go for a more charming main character, while running the risk of the game looking too much like hollow knight. But this risk would've been worth it in my opinion. I will list a number of things this game does better than hollow knight:

1. Bosses- these bosses are a treat and a delight. The way each stage prepares you for the final confrontation with a boss just feels so good. It's as if each staged worked as a narrative leading you to the final act and well prepared.
2. Variety of scenarios. The variety of levels makes things feel fresh and not so dull like in hollow knight.
3. Enemies are intriguing and their difficulty doesn't seem mindless but makes sense when you realize that they prepare you for the final boss on each stage.
4. Platforming is amazing! and doesn't feel to me, that it affects exploration. I believe the platforming in AE adds to the exploration.
5. Difficulty is sweet and rewarding. I haven't played a game where I devoted 40 hours in a long time. Only Mass Effect, Tekken 7, and Resident Evil 2 have had me submerged. When I started Hollow knight the first time I quit 5 hours into the game. This game has made me want to play hollow knight.
6. Mystique. This game has a mystique I can't explain, it is beautiful in a way that makes you sad that the main character is not more charismatic. If the game had a charismatic character like Ori, Shovel Knight, Alucard or Hollow knight, the game would stand as the gratest. Hopefully developers could improve on the character and the silly swaying when standing still. Or at least the avatar durinng dialogues.

All in all, it's a masterpiece. I only wish they sell many games so they can capitalize on the mistakes made and create something even better. If they do, they will have created the best metroidvania ever. Congrats!

I was really excited for this game but once I started playing it, animations and combat felt really clunky, it's in between good looking and weird and just feels souless. The main Character looks like a prostitute who I really never felt like playing as. Story is boring and the graphics are just odd. The music is good but it doesn't seem to interact well with the environments. Most of the times it just feels that enemies are all the same even if they look different. I remember when I used to play SOTN, sound effects would click in place with Alucard's animations; you don't get that same feeling here. Somehow the game feels barren, aiming for an intriguing art-style that just ruined the game for me.
