If you're reading the reviews, then you've seen the various positives and negatives. The short story is that I disagree with the negatives and think that most of the criticism this game gets is unfair.

I found the story engaging, the quests varying enough, and the environments unique and interesting.

The DLCs in particular have some of the most unique set pieces that I've seen in a "space RPG" style game. No game is perfect, but I highly recommend this one.

Fantastic

Despite the community hype it's actually quite boring. There isn't a lot you can do in the way or npc interaction outside of trade or attack, which was surprising as this is being marketed as an RPG. It feels like a good shell of a game but incomplete. Compare it to other games which were in development for many years like dwarf fortress and Minecraft which are incredibly expensive and robust and it really falls short. I encourage potential buyers outside the community to read the reviews carefully before buying to make sure you know what you're getting. This game has a dedicated following which over hypes it.

It's strictly a graphics and modernization upgrade, that's it. They didn't add anything or change any mechanics. This is a good thing for people who are fans of the original.
