Easily one of the best games I've had the fortune of playing. A grand stragey, which rather than being abstracted out to the extent of Civ or Europa Universalis, allows you to take on the role of a head of state (or, head of county or duchy) and do essentially what you like. Want to conquer Britain? Do it! Want to sit as a count for 400 years? Do it! Want to overthrow the Holy Roman Empire? Well... Good luck.

Although the core game only allows Christian rulers (thanks ahyangyi!) to be played, Sword of Islam adds Islamic groups, The Republic adds republics, The Old Gods adds Pagans and Sons of Abraham adds the Jewish kingdom. Each provides a new style of gameplay, distinct from the others.

Grand strategy at its finest, though frustratingly hard at times.
