Quality Supergiant Games game. Also, Cerberus is best boi.

Seriously, though, combat is pretty solid and enjoyable. There's currently four biomes, and the game is a fairly solid roguelike. The story is less apparent than in other Supergiant titles, but it's in early access, and it's kind of thrown in sprinkles via character dialogue (which works better with the roguelike structure).

Early Access Review
This game is hard. Like balls-off-the-walls-I-would-throw-my-computer-at-a-wall-if-it-wasn't-a-significant-financial-investment hard at times, but it's also extremely rewarding. It's a deckbuilding roguelike, so your deck options each time you go through are completely different. There's three characters - the Ironclad (swords!), the SIlent (daggers!), and the still-in-testing Defect (lightning or something idk) - that you can choose from, and you customize your deck as you progress through three acts.

Where the game's real strength comes from is that progress comes from within you. I know it sounds cheesy af, but you get better at the game over time. Sure, you might unlock relics and new cards, but you'll never consistently beat Act 3 until you're actually good at the game. Beating Act 3 gives me a sense of pride and accomplishment that no ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ loot box ever will, because it takes skill, daring, and a pinch of luck.

I have to say that I don't usually trust Early Access games, but Slay the Spire surprises me with near infinite replay value, a cool setting, and devs who frequently update the game and improve its already high quality. Plus, the soundtrack is kind of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥'.

Also, there's card art of the Defect sitting in a boot for one of the cards. It's pretty ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ adorable.
