you can play on the original quake2 sure. but its preferred by most players to use r1q2 or q2pro quake2 clients they are free here is an easy setup that gives you both http://www.erwinsrealm.com/files/RAILCTF.exe you can add r1q2 or q2pro to steam as non steam game.

I haven't played Quake in years. I still have Quake and Quake 2 CDs, but I am not familiar with Railwarz CTF. Can I still play on Original Game? I don't want to buy twice.
