Had a fantastic time with this game. Ignoring promises or whatever (I didn't follow this game) I was still impressed with it and will happily play it again once more content comes out. I was also super lucky in that I only ran into ~3 game-breaking bugs and people are completely entitled to hate it. Personally had a blast and the friends who watched me stream it in its entirety had a great time too.

TL;DR If you enjoyed the first Mirror's Edge, at its current price point ($20) it is absolutely worth it and required to pick up on sale.
---
I loved the first game, having played through the original three times (once on Hard, once without firing a single bullet). The feeling plus the aesthetics of the original game stick with me to this day. For people that enjoyed the first game and want more of that, this game will provide a mixed bag of emotions, but overall an incredibly satisfying ~15 hours.

I hated the first two hours of this game. I complained and whined throughout the entirety that basic moves like Quickturn and Skill Roll (abilities you start out with in the original) are gated by game progress and begrudgingly forced myself through the main storyline missions in order to unlock everything I need, skipping every single cutscene in this very forgettable story and its shallow characters. If you want to experience the best parts of this game fast, you should do the same. (And also turn off Runner's Vision as it directs you too much.)

Once you've unlocked the vertical capabilities of the MagLine (its second upgrade), you are now able to play the game's Dashes with no limits. Attempting to do some of the Dashes when they are available but before you unlock all the upgrades forces you to the realization that it is impossible to 3-star the majority of them without certain upgrades (specifically the MagLine). But trust me when I say that the Dashes are the best part of this game.

The dashes function as psuedo-puzzles combined with the thrill of speed-running. Running through the dash once and then going through it slowly trying to figure out what is the best line to take provides a great feeling of delight. Mirror's Edge Catalyst offers what a lot of other games with time-based platforming do not: a genuine challenge. Even after figuring out the best way to run a path, 3-starring these challenges require near-perfect runs in order to complete (save 2 or 3) and come with their own bits of frustration when you accidentally clip onto interactive objects or other mistakes. But getting 3 stars in these trials provide incredible amounts of satisfaction and are absolutely worth the price of the game. Getting the achievement for 3-starring every Dash was unquestionably the highlight of this game for me.

Worth mentioning is that the entire game and it's missions are based in a free-roam hub world. For me, getting around to each mission through this world was overall satisfying BUT it did come with a lot of annoyances, mainly that you do not unlock fast-travel points automatically even after you have the ability to select them on the map. You must complete Gridnode side missions that become available throughout the game that are not marked on your map and are a bit tedious IMO, though do come with a cool Mission Impossible feeling when traversing through rooms filled with lasers even if they are essentially the same obstacles you run into in the rest of the game. And yes, though you are traversing rooftops for the majority of the game and there are NPCs here and there, the world does end up feeling very empty despite being free-roam. Still, I enjoyed getting from point A to point B and the feeling of running smooth and inventive paths along the way.

Also worth mentioning are the graphics. This is the original Mirror's Edge and then some. The visuals are great and there are multiple set-pieces throughout the game (particularly the server room in Prisoner X and the last level of the game) that are exceptional enough to make you stand still and just look around for a bit. The music doesn't standout, but does provide a very fitting ambience to every moment.

The combat is pretty mediocre and you will find yourself trying to avoid it at all costs. However, it does come with some satisfying moments. https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2506467279

Overall, an absolutely worthwhile game to play through it's entirety. Being able to free run the hub world, the satisfaction of the dashes, mostly fluid levels throughout the main story all combined with incredibly pleasing set-pieces and graphics create for a game I'm surprised people didn't talk about more. I truly believe that this was a very underrated game and at it's current price point I would recommend everyone I know to play. Definitely made me feel enough feelings to write an overly wordy review about how much I loved playing it and I wish on every star for a third game to come out.

Just as good as I remember it (and even better that I don't have to grind for hours upon hours for very little rewards like original Reach).
