While Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is my favorite and most-played game by far, I would honestly not recommend it at this point in time. The mechanisms implemented by Valve to combat the abundant number of hackers and smurfs (higher level players purchasing the game on a second account to play against lower level players) are not only extremely ineffective but actually prevent new players from experiencing the game for themselves; these mechanisms include but are not limited to the use of the XP system to restrict access to the competitive game mode, the restrictions within the party system to prevent people who are ranked from queueing with new players who are unranked, and phenomenally weak anti-cheat detection which allows hackers to ruin the experience at all levels of play uninterrupted for excessively long durations of time.
