A few frustrating elements while running through the story, but for the most part it's a nice collection of puzzles that string together the story... and the story itself is quite good.

This is a charming little space shooter. Quite fun and worth the price, but I don't how long you'd play before you get bored of it.

The random nature of drops forces you to adapt to the hand you are dealt, which does keep things fresh, though there is only so much variety that really works.

The games last about an hour on normal mode.

There's a lot of things going on in this game, and when starting out, it can be quite confusing and even frustrating.

If you just want to mindlessly shoot stuff, this is probably not the game for you.
If you at least follow the gist of commands coming your way, you should be fine.
When the squad and squads work together, the results can be extremely satisfying.

I really look forward to seeing what the devs bring in future releases. My first few games in this has been quite enjoyable.

Puzzles are easy enough though I wish the hints and puzzle pieces were at least different colours.
I was charging the headset while the game was open so don't have an exact time, but it would probably keep you busy for around an hour - a decent game session.

The slightly dated physics feels a bit disruptive, but nothing broke and a few achievements got a chuckle. Pity there's none of actually finishing the title.

I'll definitely be checking out their other titles.

TL;DR: It's awesome, but it's one of those niches that might not be for everyone.

I've used varying amounts of sandboxing and debug options to fiddle with this - the interaction of all the systems intrigue me, but I don't always have the patience to tease enough resources out of the world or relive those first few days.

The actual game? I've played that a few times once I figured out the dynamics of things. I rarely make it to rockets before I get bored of the map and move on to the next...

It's easy to lose hours to this without achieving much, just poking and prodding at improving one little thing. This is when you might lose focus of the strict game - food poisoning in your main water pool - a flood of urine because you missed a little blockage in the water system sending your ecosystem into a death spiral as dupes spend days walking around in excrement while you try to fine-tune a new water treatment system.

I'm not always sure if the game balance was tweaked to be easier than my first plays before release, or if experience has just made solutions more available. Diseases definitely don't hurt as much as they used to. Picking the colder biomes now I rarely care about medical systems. Casual option allow you to trim out the less forgiving pain points.

But there is a load of options to try, and achieving a balance depends a lot on the cards you are dealt. You can play many games and constantly try something different.
The addition of workshop items extended this even more. A dollop of handy tools, and several changes to the world/equipment that can make life easier or harder depending on your preference.

One of those addictive - just another x games.

I am not very fond of the actual fighting, although it does bring an element of urgency and an additional layer of complexity. I also haven't made much use of multiplayer - but that ads another twist to the tale and allows you to ramp up the complexity or the challenge!

The building and automation however - whoo boy... you start out with a very small, very manual process. Mr DIY can craft most things with his hands once you get him the right ingredients.

Pretty soon things scale up. You need actual metal. Mr DIY isn't that hot, he needs a furnace.
The furnace needs fuel.
Your first machine belches out smoke as it rumbles to life!

You'll likely opt to mine instead of shovel all that ore yourself... so you start putting mines out that dump their rocks into boxes. Pretty soon those boxes are replaced with belts carrying ore to your furnaces where the handy inserters do the heavy lifting... and gears and wires just magically appear in boxes - ready!

Many hours later you might come back to where it all started... what a silly layout you chose - you can make it better! And by then you've probably researched many more handy things that can be added.

It's a planner's delight! And mods can add even more complexity, or simply smooth out the start...

The basic concepts in the game are good, but it lacks variety for single player.
I'd also prefer a clearer explanation of all the game concepts - a clear DPS type reading might be a good start.

I never felt challenged until I hit an area and frequently got hammered by 2-3 pirates at once.

Graphics are excellent.

If you can get it fairly cheap, give it a go. But this needs way more variety before I'd call I can recommend it.

Excellent story and you really feel like your choices matter.
Still not sure if I 'did the right thing', but sure enjoyed the ride!
