[THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR ACT I AND II]
ULTRAKILL is one of the best games available today, for a fairly acessible price too, with an incredibly high replaybility value and interesting lore. Heavily based on Dante's Inferno (and inspired by Devil May Cry 3), you travel deep into the 9 layers of Hell and kill everything standing in your path in countless stylish ways. The game has an incredibly replaybility value I am gonna review each act and layer (since P-2: WAIT OF THE WORLD).

OVERTURE — THE MOUTH OF HELL (PRELUDE): Prelude works as a tutorial for the game and does it's job very well, it introduces the player to the most basic mechanics that they'll soon learn how to combo to create deadly attacks. The prelude's atmosphere is haunting and makes the player determined to find the exit and finally enter Hell itself. The industrial aspect of the level also spikes the player curiosity by making them wonder why would Hell have such complicated machinery. All of this together captivates the player in seeing what else the game has to offer, both in terms of gameplay and in terms of environments. Something that I really like about is 0-2: THE MEATGRINDER and 0-3: DOUBLE DOWN, where you can see Swordsmachine fighting the husks in the next room and in the next level you fight it, with an interesting boss fight. You fight the Swordsmachine mid-level and get it's shotgun, keep playing the level and it returns at the end. In the last level (0-5: CERBERUS), you get to the gates of Hell and have to fight the guardian first, the Cerberus. After that, the gate opens and you finally enter inside Hell and it's layers.
OVERALL: 8/10

ACT I — INFINITE HYPERDEATH

LIMBO: Unexpectedly, Limbo is like a cozy garden with fake holographic walls and speakers, working like a psychological horror for it's sinners and makes you feel kinda lonely. It's a fun and interesting layer, introducing new common enemies like drones and streetcleaners and also the Nailgun. My favorite level is 1-3: HALLS OF SACRED REMAINS, with a complex environment and being the longest level in Act I because it has two paths (they're optional but required for P ranking the level) to unlock the door and fight the final boss of the level, the Hideous Mass. 1-4: CLAIR DE LUNE is also a fun level because it has an interesting atmosphere, teases about Gabriel, and has a difficulty spike to make the player prove that they're good enough to keep going (V2's fight is usually hard when you first play the game). In the end, you get V2's arm, the Knuckleblaster.
OVERALL: 7/10

LUST: Lust has great verticality and design, with a bright city below you and a mysterious and melancholic atmosphere surrounding the levels. It also has an interesting lore about King Minos, who has killed by Gabriel and is now a giant corpse walking over the city. What I like about this layer is that you can see you are getting closer and closer to King Minos. My favorite level is 2-3: SHEER HEART ATTACK because of the level design and theme.
OVERALL: 8/10

GLUTTONY: The last layer of Act I is a gruesome one, made out of flesh with mouth doors, acid pools and eyes constantly looking at you. It only has 2 levels but they're significantly harder than the previous levels of the act, being very challenging when you play for the first time, but they can be very fun though. In 3-2: IN THE FLESH, you finally meet Gabriel, the archangel mentioned in Limbo and Lust. Voiced by Gianni Matragrano, he's the first voice you hear when you play the game and boy, his fight can be tough. After finally beating him, you finish Act I and insert the disc to start Act II.
OVERALL: LAYER GETS A 7/10 — ACT GETS A 9/10

ACT II — IMPERFECT HATRED

GREED: My favorite layer is based on Ancient Egypt, tho it also has other monuments from around the world representing mankind's greed. The first thing you see is a giant pyramid in the background of 4-1: SLAVES FOR POWER and the game introduces you the Dual WIeld power up. Greed also progresses like Lust because you get closer to the pyramid in each level. My favorite levels are 4-2: ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ THE SUN because of the dual wield rooms, the difficulty spike and the fight against the Sisyphean Insurrectionist and 4-3: A SHOT IN THE DARK because of the unique and fun way of playing the level (literally in the dark while holding a torch). In the end, you have to fight V2 again in a fun boss fight in 4-4: CLAIR DE SOLEIL and steal another arm from it, the Whiplash.
OVERALL: 10/10

WRATH: My second favorite layer of the game starts off inside underwater caves in the layer, but instead of 5-1: IN THE WAKE OF POSEIDON being an annoying water level, is incredibly fun and even is my favorite level in Wrath. Though the rest of the layer is above the Ocean Styx and you need to avoid touching the water, otherwise you will get crushed by the endless mass of bodies in the ocean. My favorite levels are 5-1 because it's incredibly fun to fight underwater and 5-3: SHIP OF FOOLS because of the length and insane difficulty of the level. I also love the layer's lore and mid layer boss, the Ferryman, tho I find 5-4: LEVIATHAN disappointing because of the whole build up and the level design is a bit boring.
OVERALL: 8/10

HERESY: Act II's final layer is an absolutely incredible finale, with a sick introduction and difficulty. It mainly has a cathedral style of architecture and a really good level design. In 6-2: AESTHETICS OF HATE, you finally fight against Gabriel again, but this time he's really pissed at you. The fight is slightly harder than the previous one but is really fun to play. After that, the cutscene plays and ends with a cliffhanger for ACT III: GODFIST SUICIDE (which is not available at the moment).
OVERALL: LAYER GETS A 9/10 — ACT GETS A 9/10

This game is absolutely worth it and fun to play, you can always replay the game again and again and again killing every enemy in many different ways.
