Early Access Review
Massively beautiful and complex, constant updates and love from the developers, a truly open and free sandbox. If ever you were playing a Zombie survival game and you had the though "That's dumb, why can't I just [obvious solution], then this is the game for you. No holds barred, true freedom. Starving to death? Find a trowel and subsist on worms. Panic keeping you from sleeping? Drink yourself unconscious. Anxiety problems? Lots of dead smokers. Being run down by a horde? Set an alarm clock and run the other way. This game allows a truly beautiful myriad of solutions to any problem, and in turn creates a myriad of beautiful problems for you to solve. Nothing is ever simple, but nothing ever should be.

Most of the problems have been worked out, and the Fresh Start servers are a genuinely good time. This game is one of the best I've ever played but it suffers from a terrible publisher. The pay-to-win aspect is much less present due to Trion disabling the overpowered cash shop items for a limited time on the fresh start servers, if there was ever a time to play this game, it's now.

This is personally one of my absolute favorite games. I've found very few games that measure up to the masterpiece that this game is in ym eyes. Will I try to say it's perfect? Hell no. Far from it, in fact. I won't try to defend the game's flaws as "Artistic choices", I'm not one of those people. When it boils down to it, this is a crappy PC port of a game intended for the Xbox 360, and it's age is definitley showing. It's buggy, some areas feel rather incomplete compared to others, and don't get me started on AI problems.

What I adore about this game, and have failed to find in this caliber in any other title, is the sense of reward and achievement in this game. The game very much forces you into complex situations formed from a plethora of simple rules, and requires you to make mistakes over and over again to learn your way through the game. But this alone, is not enough. What truly makes this game shine in my eyes, is that every single mistake, no matter how small or large it was is the player's fault. Short of some bug wrecking your game, which is quite rare I should say, any death you experience in this game was avoidable (Save for the one scripted death, but it's rather apparent and lore-friendly).

This all culminates into an experience that forces the player to understand and react to the world, instead of mindlessly trotting through. I make my case-and-point example from this; watch a seasoned gamer play Dark Souls for the first time. It's almost always a train-wreck becausr they've been conditioned by the lack of depth in modern games to just run around and kill things. "Can't kill it? Well, I must need to level up some more first." is the usual mentality that I see. Dark Souls is a game that, regardless of your level, you could still end up dead by the hands of enemies from the starting areas if you aren't careful, but at the same time, you could beat the entire game without levelling up once.

I'll stop ranting now, and say just this; If by chance you're reading this review and haven't played the game, All I say is that if you feel like games are a mindless button-mash session, maybe give this one a try.

TL;DR, This game is my crack.

Ever since the 1.3 update, I seriously think it's impossible to run out of things to do in this game. There are so many hours of just the progression content. When you finally feel like you can tackle a boss that should be the end of the game, you realize that you've only just scratched the surface of the remaining 95 percent of the game. As of the 1.3 update, so many things are always going on that you can never be bored unless you have bad luck or no sense of creativity.

Getting destroyed by a boss? Think the only solution is better gear? Get creative! Make a new arena to make dodging the boss easier. Maybe just get some practice, make a farm to get a butt load of the materials you need to summon the boss! Feel like you die too easily? Go on an exploration mission to find more heart crystals! Feel too squishy? Talk to the guide and see what kind of potions you can make starting from a water bottle!

I could go on and on, but really you should just fork up the $10 and play this masterpiece for yourself. You will NOT regret it, I promise.

This game is absolutley amazing. The combat system is well done, and the story is beautiful.
