♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ GAMMA is wild.

I'd say the game is in a state where it is very enjoyable. I understand there is a massive fanbase with big expectations, and I get that the game is missing some a-life and qol, optimization etc. Its nowhere near reaching its potential, but with mods its already a worthwhile experience.

The setting, the gameplay loop etc is already gripping, can't wait to see how the game further develops, both with support from devs and mod community. Some of the mods on the older games are absolutely packed with tailored content, and this game (while solid on its own) will be an amazing platform.

EDIT: After finishing the game, the ending (after entering Pripjat) gets *very* repetitive. At a certain point, the game tells you to finish whatever exploring you want to do, because you are entering the point of no return. "Yeah, I can do the final hour or two of content" I think to myself.

Turns out there are hours on end of the game throwing enemies at you in narrow corridors, yank boss battles, and more base clearing and narrow tunnels. This cycle repeats many times over, to the point where the whole "grand finale" just becomes tedious. Ended up just running past most of the enemies at one point, the game turned into more of a "dark souls boss run" game, rather than the interesting, engaging game it had been up until Pripjat.

Despite the ending being rather dull, the overall concept, atmosphere and awe of the "zone" is very much worth the price in its own right. To elaborate on my original review; I believe this game will age like fine wine, with more content updates, mods and community backing. Looking at major community projects like Gamma, Anomaly etc, this game stands solid in its own right, and even more so as a platform for those looking for a tailored, modded trip into the zone.

The gunplay and gameplay is amazing. Don't let the graphics fool you, this game is as immersive as they come.

Yeah, no. This game is actually not functioning without a controller. As others mention, without a PageUp / PageDown, Home / End setup, you will not be able to go through the menus. I have those keys, so I thought I'd give it a go. The keyboard stops responding when trying to switch resolution, which, after some googling, I found out has been an issue for quite a while.
Also the intro tutorial is unskippable, as well as the cutscenes in the start. So good luck trying to troubleshoot, as you have to watch a 2-minute intro every time the keyboard stops working on you.

Honestly beyond disbelief as to how this game is allowed to stay up on steam.

The core game is good, very short though. What makes this game a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ is the absolute ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ you have to deal with when it comes to server lag, disconnects, crashes, loading times, bugs and startup times.
I've played this game on origin originally and then bought it for the steam re-release a year later only to find that none of the issues were resolved. ♥♥♥♥ you ea you garbage company. My day is ruined by your practices yet again, you utter amoebas.
