Early Access Review
Stop and smell the roses - accept the game for what it is. An early access, classic RPG-style adventure in a shared world made by a small group of people, trying to put a different spin on the MMO formula. It won't dethrone any of your favorite MMOs.

Players have become very hyper-analytical about games and tend to pick apart every aspect of them as soon as they get their hands on them, often without having a full picture of what's going on or how things work properly. Each game has its own quirks, whether good or bad, but that's what sets them apart. Could you imagine if OSRS were released today, what the initial reviews would look like?

Brighter Shores has a good foundation to become a great game, but it has some rough edges that need to be polished. The biggest complaint is that many players don't like the fact that when you change zones you have to train the combat profession again from scratch. The issue is that, at the moment, the combat lacks variety, and as far as I know, special abilities haven't been added yet. So it makes it look like you're doing exactly the same thing again, but in a different zone. Some are also saying that the skills “reset”, which is simply not true, it turns out that you only train fishing in Hopeport and you only train woodcutting in Hopeforest, and as you progress through the game these professions will start to overlap and make sense together.

Another problem is how the development team recycles content. Sure, you're leveling up in fishing and can start catching other fish, but they're just reskinned variants on areas you've been to before. Personally, I don't mind it, but I can see how other players don't like this. Some QoL is also needed, having to click 2-3 times for 1 action is tiring, among other things. The dev team has been pushing fast updates to fix this tho. The UI is also great, it's very flexible and you can customize it however you want.

As far as I'm concerned, Im enjoying my time with this game even with its issues and I'm sure it will improve over time.

They did it. I'm speechless. An absolute masterpiece.

And here I thought it would be impossible for Croteam to match the quality and depth of the first game - how wrong I was. From the natural environments and architecture to the music, the puzzles, the characters, the story, and the constant self-reflective and thoughtful arguments - everything fits together so perfectly and flows so organically while staying true to its roots. The attention to detail is also extraordinary.

The Talos Principle series is the literal definition of a hidden gem. Can't recommend it enough.

Mixed feelings due to insane predatory monetization.

They've removed the T from TCG. The cards have no value and the crafting system (wildcards) is a joke, you get very few rares and mythics. If you enjoy brewing and play jank, you'll have to spend big or be a god at drafting to grow a collection for cheap. Every system within this game was built to give you as little as possible to incentivize you to open up the shop and spend more money. They've even nerfed rewards from drafts and other events that you could grind. I cannot emphasize enough how greedy WOTC is.

This will also reflect on the gameplay. Every 2 out of 3 games you will be playing against an aggressive red deck that tries to end the game in 3-4 turns. This is due to the fact that these decks are some of the cheapest to make and are always meta-relevant, which is why many people choose to play them. For a game that prides itself on its massive library, having to play against the same meta decks can be exhausting (this is more of a rant than anything tho). Alchemy and digital only cards in general also seem strange and are not very popular among the community, but WOTC keeps pushing it down our throats.

Gameplay-wise, it's what you'd expect from a modern FPS - it's fast, engaging and surprisingly well-balanced.
The servers on the other hand are an absolute disgrace making it hard to recomend this game. It's beyond comprehension how the servers can be this bad. It's exhausting.

There's also major audio issues that are not being adressed.

Has more in common with table football than actual football.
Ai is useless most of the time even when pressing, keepers are non-existent and the best athletes are over the top broken - literally every time Haaland shoots, the ball goes in.
