Can't wait to play this game again when everything is fixed. Real WIP at the moment though.

I first became familiar with Aquaplus by playing the unofficial translation of White Album 2. I enjoyed the writing and wanted more. This was how I came across Utawarerumono.

So how does Monochrome Mobius shape up? Writing wise, it's great. I had a lot of laughs and even tears during the approximately 30 hour adventure. That being said, it never reaches the peaks of Mask of Truth but fortunately doesn't fall as low as some of the valleys of Mask of Deception. Overall, very solid writing.

Now as far as the gameplay goes. It's a very by the numbers JRPG. Nothing that jumps out at you. Just a vehicle to tell the story, not unlike the SRPG component of the original series.

Production value is on the weaker side too. The faceless NPCs have been well documented. And if you were hoping to explore the Imperial Capital's busy streets and the training grounds of Ennakamuy like in the original games... you won't get that. You see a few rows of buildings with an equipment vendor and a consumables merchant. All of the cities are like that. Witcher 3 this is not.

I still enjoy what I got out of the game and am glad I was able to revisit some old friends and can't wait for a Monochrome Mobius 2. But this was a clearly budgeted production that I felt might have done better as a straight visual novel. Get it if you're a fan of the franchise but you may want to wait for a sale.
