I know bangers; this is a banger. Mostly.

Rather than break down my review into pros and cons, I think it will be easier—and, in this case, logistically simpler—to outline the few things I find to be unbearable in this game, then glaze it for its aspects I appreciate substantially more than the others which I also appreciate in their own right.

You will be plagued by the most annoying alternate-character sequences every 2–3 missions. By the time you make it halfway through the game, you will audibly sigh whenever Peter begins to wonder what MJ is up to during a cutscene (as you will have learned this to be a hallmark sign that you're about to be forced into her body and through the worst stealth section known to humankind for the next 20 minutes and there's no way around it). Eventually even Miles Morales can't escape the occasional Peter Parker soul-grafting.
The writing isn't always "weird," but there are times absolutely ridiculous things happen for absolutely ridiculous reasons. For example, literally anything with MJ. She's an investigative journalist, but she's literally braindead with regard to her own safety. The only reason she's not dead is because of Peter, and it's literally a miracle he keeps running into her in the situations he does to save her from a comically horrific fate. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 spoilers (and also game spoilers): Think of how Gwen Stacy got herself killed (and how it was hardly Peter's fault). Now, imagine Gwen's attitude (but instead it's MJ), and she and Peter are having relationship issues because she thinks she should be taken just as seriously as Spider-Man (and ought to be able to do everything he can). TLDR: MJ is commendably courageous and likable (I guess) but unbelievably stupid (literally unbelievable; you can't do what she does as well as she does it and lack that much self-awareness).

ok I'm not done with this review yet but I'm bored with writing it and I haven't completely finished the game yet, so I'm going to post what I've got and come back to it later (including DLC reviews).

Actually incredible DLC, at least as good as the main game. I'm already at the final boss and I've been to every area of the DLC, the only valid complaints are about performance in specific areas. git gud.

I'm OTG (on that grind)

One of the worst intros to any game I've ever seen. The choreography and characters were genuinely cringe-worthy. Made the game out to be a cheesy post-apocalyptic survival game. Then, about 30 minutes in, I touched a glowing rock and now I need to slay a demigod. The game is incredible now.

I've been having a blast playing this game. It's deceptively large, which isn't very obvious at the beginning (as is with many rogue-lites), and I'd be surprised if there isn't a large number of people who quit early thinking they'd seen what the game had to offer. If you do manage to beat the Hand of the King for the first time, you'll be coming back for more.

You should see it for yourself.

My only complaint is the challenge medal achievements. No completionist in their right mind would attempt those.

Certain boss fights are horribly unbalanced (there's a red-haired goddess of rot I'm thinking of), however my net experience with this game has thus far been beyond positive. Visual style is great, lore is great, new gameplay mechanics are fun and don't feel too forced. I keep finding more things to do when I think I've exhausted all my opportunities. Working on all achievements right now, Got all achievements, still not bored.

In the few cases where balancing issues arise, I cannot deny I have experienced the greatest endorphin rush upon a boss's defeat out of any Souls-like games I've played, chiefly due to the nigh-hundreds of deaths that befell me in the process.

EDIT: The game has been rebalanced a number of times following its release in February, and continues to deliver new content and improvements to players through free updates (a rare decision from FromSoftware).

Great game (if you've got the stones for it). Gives me conniptions.

After 440 hours I could finally play this game on public servers.

Easily a great experience for you and your friends.
