Anime ended, I'm depressed now. This is a really good game btw, nails the feeling of the ODM gear perfectly. Only complaint is the main gameplay loop can get a bit repetitive. 8/10

This game is important.
Let me just start by saying that I first played RE4 like 3 years ago, so nostalgia doesn't play any part in this review. But I grew up playing RE2 & other early 3d games so I'm used to the concept of tank controls & other old game design quirks. Now this game is great. Amazing, even. A cornerstone in the survival horror genre, and for video games in general. But it's nowhere near perfect.
Let's start with the positives: the controls are fantastic. Shooting enemies feels responsive, and the combat in general is really satisfying once you have it down. The graphics still look pretty damn good, aside from some low res textures. Sound design is peak, I'm a major audiophile and this game pushes all the right buttons for me: the gun sounds, having each foot make a different sound when you walk, enemies screaming threats in spanish & they distinct sounds to telegraph their attack, etc. Love the setting of rural Spain & the castle, really meshes well with the more macabre elements. Also love that it keeps that same Resident Evil campy cheesiness, while still maintaining a horror atmosphere.
And now for the negatives: the story is sh!t. You know it, I know it. It really starts to dip near the final act (basically the entire island section). And yeah, RE games haven't exactly been known for having Shakespearean writing, but I feel like this is the one where ♥♥♥♥ just truly goes off the rails. And there are a few parts that still make me cringe to no end, specifically the chopper gunner segment and anytime Krauser is on screen. Ada's character in particular is just really annoying to me. I kept thinking she'd have some sort of tragic backstory or some underlying motive but no, she's just mysterious and aloof for no reason other than it makes her cool and sexy ig? (which it does tbf) And the only gripe I have with the actual gameplay is that some of the bosses are just a slog to get through, makes having a rocket launcher a necessity. Aside from all that, this game still holds up incredibly well, and even if you've played the remake you should really give it a go. 10/10

This. This is how you do a sandbox vr game. Intuitive, user-friendly interface, and clear attention to detail. No story bs, just load in, gear up and go on a rampage. This might be my new favorite way to de-stress after a long day of work. I might only have 2.6 hours clocked in right now, but just wait, that sh!t's gonna be over 100 soon, mark my words.

Addendum: I will be playing more of this when I move into a larger apartment. :L

Early Access Review
Went into this because someone told me it was "a really good Doom-clone", came to find it was more of a Quake-clone than anything. But ULTRAKILL™ is really its own thing. Best way I can describe it is Quake's atmosphere and grit mixed with Devil May Cry's stylistic combat. The game gives you an incredibly balanced & varied gun sandbox, great for chaining together some pretty nasty combos, along with some fun mobility options. Combine that with a kickass breakbeat soundtrack blasting into your earholes, it's sure to get your adrenaline pumping. And while it may not be very fleshed out, the setting/plot gives a sort of Tarantino/Berserk vibe to it, like dark but not gratuitously edgy. All in all stellar game, can't wait to see what's added to it in the future. 11/10 from me.

Easily the coolest idea for a game I've seen in the last 5 years. The learning curve may take a bit of time but it's definitely worth it, before you know it you'll be beatboxing in your head while shooting/dodging/reloading to the beat. I just wish they'd kept updating the game, it still feels like early access. 7.5/10

Hands down my favorite cod campaign. Lots of memorable moments and characters, and the simplicity of the gameplay makes it easy to come back to. I recommend playing through it on hardened difficulty, as veteran just feels too cheap but regular feels a bit too easy, hardened hits that nice sweet spot of being fairly challenging while not completely infuriating. 8/10

This game has me very conflicted. On one hand, it's great for immersing yourself in a graphically and atmospherically beautiful experience, full of personality and interesting mechanics, one which is especially enjoyable with friends. On the other hand (and this goes double for me as I'm primarily a solo gamer), it's very punishing for solo and inexperienced players, and the majority of the player base is either very toxic or just ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ overall. Just recently I had finished a voyage and docked at an outpost to turn in my loot, and I noticed that there was another crew already there. I typed in the chat "solo slooper here, just turning in my loot. not looking to fight." So they approached me, waved and pulled out an instrument and started playing. Now at this point, I thought, "oh cool, they're friendly. Guess I don't have to worry about them attacking me." So I started bringing my loot ashore only to get triple teamed by them and killed. I get that being a pirate themed game, there needs to be pvp and raiding and looting and all that stuff. But I seriously wish there was a pve only server, for people who just wanna do voyages and have fun with friends. Overall, it's a great game to immerse yourself in and mess around with friends, I just wish there were more options for people who don't wanna get ♥♥♥♥♥♥ over by players who have clocked in 3,000+ hours and have nothing better to do but gangbang solo sloopers. 6/10

update 2024: they added pve servers! this review is irrelevant! lol

I grew up playing the original Borderlands on 360, and getting a chance to replay it through a new lens was very exciting.

For starters (this goes without saying), the updated textures/graphics are really nice. Not that the game needed it though, the iconic cel-shaded artstyle is timeless.

There are numerous quality of life changes: you no longer have to interact with every ammo and health drop to pick them up, now it works the same as in BL 2, you can just walk into them. The updated UI is also a lot nicer imo. You also now have a minimap, and some people would argue that this takes away a lot of the freedom of exploration, but personally I see it as a welcome addition.

Other noteworthy changes and additions include being able to take on all bosses that you've already killed, new gold keys & chests, new gun types, and more character customization options.

However, it is important to note that there are a few glitches that can occur in this version, such as dialogue being cut off, and a few missing textures. Nothing game breaking, and very minor when compared to all of the improvements I just listed.

All in all, pretty solid remaster. 8.5/10

(try to ignore the 0.3 hours, I used a source port lol)
Having grown up playing a mix of retro and current (at the time) games, Quake felt right at home to me when I played it for the first time a few days ago. And I gotta say, this is probably my favorite id software shooter to date. The difficulty hits that perfect sweet spot of being fairly challenging while not being completely dickish (except for the spawns, seriously ♥♥♥♥ those guys). The weapon variety and enemy lineup is nice and diverse, and the level design works pretty well in tandem with them. My only real complaint is the lack of music on the base version you get on Steam, which can be remedied by jumping through a few hoops or just using a source port, like Mark V or Quakespasm. Might seem like a minor gripe to most people, but dude, hearing that creepy ambiance and the sick distorted guitar riffs by NIN just really completes the whole experience.

All in all, really solid game. 10/10
