The writing, dialogues, atmosphere, the characters and the story are a solid 8/10, but the animations, combat and visuals are 1/10. Unfortunately, this game did not aged very well, if you can stomach the utter atrocious movement and combat, go for it, but i would recommend just reading the story at the wiki and watching some YT videos with the summary of the story, so you can move on to the second and the third game.

PURE TRASH. YOU CAN'T EVEN DISABLE CONTROLLER VIBRATION FOR THIS ♥♥♥♥ AND THE DEVELOPERS DON'T GIVE A ♥♥♥♥ ANYMORE.

How do i even begin? Should i tell how insanely well done and amazing is the soundtrack or the visuals or the facial animations of the characters (that can convey so many emotions in an incredible realistic way) or the dialogues or the quests/stories (including the side quests that are 100x better than some main quests/stories of AAA games out there) or the consequences of your decisions and actions or the small details like how Geralt unsheath and sheath his swords or the extremely fun and interesting open world full of secrets or the lore of the world and the monsters and the races or how addictive is the card game that will make you wonder if you are really playing a RPG with a fun mini-game or the other way around. I could go on, but i will stop it here.

This game is a masterpiece plain and simple, the sheer amount of good content and the love the developers have put into this game is insane, the characters and the stories will stay with you forever, you will cry, laugh, rage and shed tears of joy while playing this game. This game reminded me why i love video games and why is one of the best or THE BEST form of entertainment out there. I love Geralt, Triss, Yen, Ciri, Zoltan, Dandelion, Roach, all the characters and CDProjekt RED. Thank you so much for this epic and unforgettable adventure. And of course thanks to Andrzej Sapkowski (creator of The Witcher book series).

it's ok

This makes me sad, but i just can't hold my frustration with this game anymore.

Since i don't have much patience anymore i will just make a list of the positive and the negative stuff.

PROS:
+ The gameplay/combat is great again, the terrible hitboxes and movement of DkS 2 is not here. It feels even better than DkS 1.
+ Armor sets and weapons are great, it's one weapon more fun than the other to use and even though it looks like you have less armors than in DkS 2, they look so much better in the decent character anatomy of DkS 3. Like, male and female body were the same in DkS 2. The weapons arts are fun and interesting but powerstancing was nice too in DkS 2.
+ Great bosses (some).
+ Amazing sound design and voice acting.

CONS:
- The game has a grey and brown pallete with some foggy look that looks bad. You are kinda forced to use a reshade to fix it.
- Ridiculously fast enemies. Seriously, this thing is terrible in so many ways. Enemies attack too fast and can combo-chain (or something like that) so fast, that you are pretty much forced to turtle back or dodge like a clown non-stop. They wanted to put some Bloodborne into the game but they forgot that your character in BB is fast like the enemies, while here your character isn't, and this doesn't work well at all. Outrider knights are the epitome of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. You have this ultra fast and hard hitting enemy + frostbite (cold damage that affects stamina + increases damage taken), it's insane to think that a level 30-35 player can take on this enemy at the beginning of the game, unless you go ranged or use some bullsh*t strategy.
- Too much fanservice done wrong and more convoluted story and lore. I know the Souls games tell the story in a different way, but this method is kinda "meh" at this point and they should change a little bit.

I had more to say but i just wanted to vent my frustration with this game. I was very anxious to play but after a good amount of hours, i can't say that i will put the amount of hours i've put in DkS 1 and DkS 2 into DkS 3. Hell, i haven't even finished the game, like, the last boss, but this game doesn't have the Souls charm and this makes me sad and without motivation to continue playing.
**EDIT: Despite everything, i had and i'm still having fun playing with mods.**

It's pretty great, but...i'm using 150 mods and you HAVE to use some mods that fixes a lot of bugs left in the game by Bethesda + there are other mods that change the UI and other minor things but they add so much to the game, it's incredible.

I've played the game vanilla (without mods) for some good hours before starting to use mods, and i gotta say, the game without any mod is terrible, yes, TERRIBLE.

So, don't even bother to play this game without mods.

This game is fun and if you are a fan of LoTR you will probably enjoy it a lot.

But the game has some annoying cons:

- Hitboxes are like in Dark Souls 2 when you have low ADP stat, you know what i mean? The hitboxes are kinda big for your character and the enemies, and this can be good and bad at times.

- Movement and combat is kinda clunky/rigid, it is a bit annoying at times.

- Invisible walls are everywhere.

- The AI of your companions can be kinda stupid, if you fall, instead of them going to your help they will try to kill any enemy first then go to your aid and this can be a pain in the ass sometimes.


Aside from that, the gameplay is decent and the story too.

The best way to describe this game is to call it a brute diamond, if it was polished it would be 10/10 easily.

The gameplay is amazing, the combat is so satisfying and it does require some skill at certain times, the design of the monsters is so well done and the challenge posed by some of them makes the combat/gameplay even better.

The story is kinda convoluted but has it's moments and it is unique and very interesting imo.

It's a game that suffers sometimes with the cut content and the lack of care in some areas, but in the end it is so unique and fun that you can easily ignore those problems and just focus on the good points.

Painfully boring.

1 step forward and 2 steps back in some areas/design choices.

But it can be fun.
