Why?

I don't really like the US but I think its a great country despite all of our flaws. Sure, we may be disunited right now, but remember, when planes stall, you drop before you can rise again. Eventually we will overcome and be united again. This guy unified Americans in war. Americans of all walks of life's, rich, poor, black, Hispanic or white,you name it, they all carried this gun. Its an all-star American.
Its an engineering marvel. As an engineering student, I can only imagine the amount of work John Moses Browning put into this. The way it all works together is mind blowing. A bunch of parts working in unison, choreographed to perfection. While I can barely make a door work. Hats off to you Browning!
The caliber. You see, I just don't think 9mn is big enough for me. When I shot a 9mn, it felt too soft, too light. There was no challenge, no skill. Like you put the auto-pliot on. I'm sure the .45 the M1911 is chambered should be the good locks gun for me:Not too soft, not too hard.Just right.
I'm team steel. I don't like polymer guns. I shot a polymer rifle and disliked it. I dislike the glock cause it looks like a lump of plastic. And as a person that worked with plastic, they're soft and easily bendable by heat. Not exactly the qualities I want in a material for a gun. Sorry Tupperware, I'm sticking with steel.
I'm traditional. The M1911 is a old and venerable pistol. It represents tradition, and I'm traditional. You know, some folks used to say that the gun represents its owner, just like how a car represents its owner. Thus, the M1911 is a perfect for for me.
