I'll admit I'm not hugely great at resource management style games, however the twist this game has put on the formula has made it incredibly fun. The range of different infections that you can have allows for some interesting scenarios and there's many different ways you can approach doing things.

I enjoyed it much more than I expected to.

For those who have only played the first chapter: keep going. It starts badly IMO, giving a feel it's a generic military shooter. However it picks up as it goes, especially once the third chapter begins. The story ends with sequel bait that will never be followed up on, but... ehh, I don't care. It was fun while it lasted.

The weapon roster is good and certain enemies are better taken out by certain weapons, requiring quick swapping and tactics- like any FPS should have (though I hated the shotgun). Movement was a bit slow for my liking- I prefer faster movement like in games such as Dusk- but I got used to it. You get faster after the Stroggification, though still a little slow. Oh well.

Graphics for its time are really good, and Raven got more out of the engine than ID did with Doom 3. Frame rate was steady and overall aesthetics were very good. There were wall textures that look too low res, but that didn't bother me. It did feel a bit repetitive at times- going through the same tower design three times to turn on... a laser... thing... felt like padding.

I still stand by my overall thinking that turning Quake into a military shooter was a *big* mistake, born out of laziness when they made Quake 2. However it is what it is, and for what Raven was trying to accomplish when they made this, I feel it is a success.

Review is for the game in VR, it's the only way I played it and honestly is the way I'd recommend anyone else play it. This is mainly due to the free aim you get with both the gun and the sweeper, plus there's more latitude for ducking and leaning when you're playing in VR mode.

Gal Gun 2 is silly fun. The gameplay which comprises of shooting girls and demons with an pheromone gun and then vacuuming them shouldn't be taken seriously and when it comes to this sort of gameplay, Gal Gun 2 delivers well. It doesn't have a whole lot of depth and the most amount of strategy to use is identifying which demons would be more difficult to shoot or vacuum up (signified by how they look and their size).

Despite its quite silly nature it is well executed and I found myself caring about one of the main characters, something I didn't think would happen going into this. There's just enough in terms of writing to keep me interested in continuing, despite the game feeling repetitive at times. There being seven endings will keep me going back to the game until I unlock them all and I'd like to have a go at getting all the achievements.

I wouldn't recommend getting this at full price (though I rarely get games at full price anyway), so throw it into your wishlist and get it for half price along with the VR DLC.

Well, it's Doom 3. It has its pluses and its minuses, and honestly it's a real in the middle game for me. It isn't bad, but it has problems that are hard to overlook. These are well documented- overuse of monster closets, 'surprise' imps behind doors, overuse of darkness and so forth. The visual style of the UAC base is initially impressive but gets tiresome the more the game is played. It gets kind of samey, and though they seem to have wanted to make the game more realistic, most of the equipment seem to serve no real purpose other than creating something nice to look at.

But it is still enjoyable, if somewhat middling.

A fun arcade style hockey game. Controls are fluid and intuitive and the pixel art used for the players and arena are well done. Going a man up for winning a fight is a refreshing change from how things are in the NHL :-P

If I were to gripe, the only issue I have is that the national teams' colours aren't the same as they are in the real world. Buuut that's hardly an issue that really matters.

A classic shooter, it's incredibly enjoyable. The labyrinthine levels are made a lot easier to navigate with the automap that ECWolf brings, but the game is still a challenge. Scaling damage to how close the enemy is to you means that if an enemy shoots from close behind you, well you'll be killed quite quickly. The enemies have a habit of moving around a lot, more so than the other ID PFS games, so they can get behind you easily.

At this point I've just completed the main campaign, now there's the three prequel chapters to get through.

So, what to make of this one? Its... all right. While I understand the criticisms of those who thorougly dislike the game, I don't hate it. It just barely gets a 'recommended' from me, and this is all due to one issue.

The 'find the commander' mechanic.

One thing I like about The New Order is that you have the choice on how to take on a given room- stealthily or guns blazing. You can take the approach that suited your play style best (I tend to go for a mix of the two, whatever I feel like doing at the time). Instead the game gives you a vague idea as to where a commander is, and if you're detected, enemies will keep spawning into the area until the commander is dead. The stealth mechanic was poorly implemented, equating to little more than 'crouch makes you virtually invisible somehow'. It was tiring at times, and there were moments when I groaned whenever I heard that radio static and the numbers appeared at the top of the screen.

When it was an all-out run and gun game hot damn it was good. The shooting mechanics were great and I spent most of my times dual wielding because there's nothing better in this game than mowing down nazis with a gun in each hand. So the shooting and skill tree was well done, and credit where it's due there.

The story was all right- there were far too many cut scenes and there were ones that took place in situations that made no sense but OK. Max was a delight in how he brought humour to the whole thing, but most of the humour fell flat to me. The drama was very B-movie, and I'm not sure if that was intended or not. It's definitely not self aware which is nice (watching characters figuratively or literally winking at the camera bugs me) but I'm really hoping the over the top nature of everything in the game was meant to be silly instead of being a product of poor writing. Who knows?

Fuoll credit to the audio design, music and sound were top notch, nothing wrong there so top marks on sound.

OK, time for me to take out some uber commanders, I forgot to do that.

The third and IMO best of the Trinity trilogy (ir is it Trinity trinity? hmm). Not a perfect game, but thoroughly enjoyable. Having played the last two games enhanced my enjoyment of this one as I already knew Jonah

Positive things of note:
- Improved skill tree/crafting system. It gets a bit better every time
- They made me like Jonah, expanding his character (and giving him a gf, they were cute together) was a great idea
- A greater emphasis on exploration, puzzle solving and crafting than previous games
- Not basing it on an uncharted island (which still had many people on it) was refreshing
- Jungle locations were beautiful, perfect location for the game
- New movement mechanics were a nice addition

Negative things of note:
- The overuse of fog made great design ugly
- Too many cut scenes
- There are times when if you don't have the camera pointing where the game wants it to point, Lara won't execute a jump properly and die, even if you jumped in the right direction
- Tab to go into map/stats, esc to exit? It seems petty but the number of times I tried to hit tab to go out was frequent. Seems counter intuitive.

Overall though I had fun playing it, and that's really what's important

Once when I was touring around Vietnam, I ordered some fox because hey, never tried that before. It was served to me boiled because some parts of Vietnam apparently haven't discovered cooking oil yet. It was thoroughly unpleasant to eat, though I didn't complain as I was in a fascinating country with its own culture and sights to see.

Agony very much reminds me of that experience. While it has some gorgeous environments to see, the player experience is as enjoyable as eating boiled fox meat- bland and unappetising. It is quite likely I'll bit by bit chew my way through to one of the endings, though it's doubtful I'll have much fun.

It does have improvements over the original game, and credit where it's due- improved lighting, the adding back of the 3 edgy 5 me stuff (which I wasn't too bothered about being removed personally), and the adding of the minimap were all great. But they ultimately don't really change the final gaming experience.
