$8 for one of the best, densest bullethells i've ever played. every time you think you've found everything this game has to offer, its got another ace up its sleeve. one of my favorite roguelikes of all time- check it out!

this is the best game I’ve ever played, it’s so much fun but the story is also brilliantly told and has such an important message. madeline is such a well written character and playing this game was really meaningful to me as someone who’s struggled with ♥♥♥♥! also as someone who is trans! it’s great and the difficulty is so well paced so it never feels unfair or makes me really mad. anyways trans rights! good game!

tom francis seems to have an undeniable knack for stealth. when i first played gunpoint in 2019, it completely shattered (heh) my expectations and is genuinely one of the best stealth games i've ever played- made even more fun by the great dialogue and unique wall-jumping gameplay. heat signature takes everything great from gunpoint and turns it into a roguelike- in SPACE. and that's not all. while gunpoint had it's moments of interesting strategizing or stressful sneaking, heat signature takes it to the next level with an expansive and interchangeable amount of gadgets, which can each have their own modifiers, a diverse set of weapons for any situation, and absolutely mindblowing level design. the story is admittedly weaker than gunpoint, but it doesn't matter as much here due to the sheer size of content in the game. as of this review, i have almost 20 hours and it has never gotten dull. it's so much fun to push your characters further and further, trying to figure out just how many sticky situations they can take before you have to restart with a new one. and that's exactly where the game shines- in those moments where you're surrounded by shield-toting, armor-wearing guards with nothing but two shotgun blasts, a katana, and a teleporter. yet somehow it's always possible. it's almost unbelievable that this game is randomly generated, it feels as though care has been put into every mission to make it possible and enjoyable, and you can really tell that tom put so much work into the product. i absolutely recommend this game to anyone who loves stealth, roguelikes, strategy, or generally kicking ass in space.
