MASTERPIECE | ABSOLUTE CINEMA | MUST PLAY | GAME OF THE YEAR | 11/10

I rarely write reviews of any games, probably only do it if the game outreaches my expectations - and my expectations for KCD2 were very high . This is, without a doubt, one of the best gaming experiences in my life. In my opinion, KCD2 stands in line among titles like RDR2, Baldur's Gate 3, Cyberpunk 2077 and Witcher 3. It is a game that Ubisoft would wish to make for the past 15 years and still couldn't achieve it. The game is extraordinary, simply massive, with almost 0 filler content. It doesn't need 50 question marks on the map to encourage exploration and spark curiosity.

I might be biased, since I followed the early stages of development the 1st entry back in 2016 and my attachment to both of this titles is enormous.

I won't talk about every aspect of the game, since this would require many hours and I will probably dedicate my winter time to cover it on a Youtube video.

So - quickly walking through my highlights and some unique points, that maybe other reviews will not mention.

Every element of the game supports its strong narrative - from visuals and UI, to the way cutscenes are directed and how design of various game mechanics impacts your overall experience. It's crazy how this game tries to tell you the medieval epic story in the smallest details.

Mechanically speaking - almost every single piece of KCD1 got and some kind of upgrade or overhaul. The game is even more systemic driven then previous and it ties various aspects of the game very well. The amount of stuff that can be done in this game kinda shocked me. It contains a handful of various mini-games, deep character progression (still fan of leveling my drinking skills!), multiple weapons that feels differently with custom animations and combos. Exploration is a whole other world - and the inkeeper being the source of important information in every village is a surprisingly great mechanic, which I still see in other RPGs (as well as amazing fast travel mechanic and encounters). This whole mixture (seriously, this game is monumental) reminds me of best gameplay loops from RDR2. The only missing piece would be variety of a wildlife.

Now, my 2 unique points
- KUDOS FOR THE WIKIPEDIA OF KNOWLEDGE ABOUT MEDIEVAL BOHEMIA.
- Simulating the world is another level, maybe even better then in RDR2. Except from Kuttenberg, every village has interiors for almost every building (and even Kuttenberg has a lot if them). Each NPC has an assigned bed - they take off clothes when they go to sleep. They can take items you dropped - they can even wear it! Crime system is probably one of the best among the genre. Information is spread by word, not by some magical force. Guards react to commited crime intelligently and enemies patrol are adapting to your actions and last place you were seen. If someone told you - meet me tommorow morning, HE REALLY MEANS IT. Quest will happen with or without you if you missed it.
I can't think of the world where I was more immersed then RDR2 and KCD2 - and since KCD gives the player even more tools to his disposal, I think it wins in that competition - even though it's not very cinematic game, and has more Skyrim soul when it comes to the animations.

Of course, I have some slight objections about combat difficulty after the early game, or how certain story beats were handled, but it's not enough to lower even 0.25 point from the final one.

The one sad thing is the contrast between the cutscenes and typical conversations face on face. It sometimes breaks the immersion, especially if the cutscene is sliced only to make a dialogue choice, but, as in original, I can live with that and still extremely enjoy the story. I know it's pure budget thing, so I hope KCD2 will sell extremely well.

But, this complaiment is invalid, because of my final point below

If you want to take one point from that review, take this:
Kingdom Come Deliverance II proves that games are, for God's sake, not about cinematic quality and super detailed animations - neither flashy ray-tracing or highly detailed texture. Games are about stepping into the digital world when you have agency and this world responds to you in a way you would expect, and your choice matters. Classic example is a can throwing from early hours of Half Life. KCD2 creates a world that is astonishing and feels alive more then any other world I've seen in a video game, period. Its beautiful, it reacts to your actions. Story is extremely grounded and believable, the writing is excellent and voice acting with ABSOLUTELY F*CKING amazing music score led me to tears couple of times. Thanks Jan Valta and Adam Sporka & their Team.

Thank you Warhorse, for bringing that duology to life. You restored my joy to playing video games, you fullfilled my child fantasy of being a knight. You reminded why I fell in love wih video games. Apart from life's endevors, these are the experiences that make a life worth living - especially with so many soulless content flooding the entertainment industry. Thank you once again.

After all these years, patches and updates, DLC - truly unparalleled, fully fledged cinematic experience with absolutely brilliant cast, narrative and gameplay. Nothing more to demand - 10/10 experience and easily my favorite game of all time.
