Jedi Survivor - Finally Worth the Wait (on Steam Deck)

As a long-time high-end PC gamer, I shifted away from investing in new rigs and now game exclusively on Steam Deck or GeForce Now. Since EA choose not to play nice with GFN, I’ve avoided their games—with this one exception. The Cal Kestis series has become my favourite Star Wars experience since the classic KOTOR games, so I had to take a risk with Jedi Survivor, hoping it would run well on the Steam Deck.

Now, after Patch 9 and over a year post-launch, I can finally give this game the review it deserves. Jedi Outcast is one of my all-time favourite Star Wars titles, and my only complaint was that there wasn't more of it. Jedi Survivor takes everything that made its predecessor great and expands on it in all the right ways—world-building, story, gameplay—it’s fantastic! I love it.

That said, like many others, I couldn't enjoy it at all when it first launched. The performance was awful on anything short of a top-tier PC, and the game was riddled with bugs, not to mention the godawful Denuvo DRM.

Thankfully, as of Patch 9, almost a year and a half later, I'm finally able to enjoy the game properly. Performance on the Steam Deck has been rock solid, with stable frame rates, minimal stuttering, and even quieter fan noise. If the game had launched in this state, it would have been my Game of the Year without question.
