Needs:
• Online multiplayer
• More variety
• Workshop support

A nice surprise was not needing XPadder (or similar program) to use my SNES controller. All buttons were recognized correctly.

Online multiplayer
While this game can be played alone, it's most fun with more people. My friends and I enjoyed the chaos of working together, but our schedules keep us from playing it more often.
The ability to play with friends over the internet would let me recommend this game more.

More variety
Each level, except the final one, consists of the following:
1. Four minute timer
2. One or two menu items
3. Complete the order tickets
The game has a map where you pick a level, a lot better than a simple level list.
The map is split up into sections that you discover as you progress. Each section has a gimmick for their levels.
- Space: players are seperated by "shuttles" that require coordination to send a player/ingredients back and forth
- Lava: you can fall in, requiring a 5 second respawn; rock formations can change, seperating players/ingredients/stations
- Trucks: players must wait for a truck to align with another truck to cross them, the stations/ingredients are seperated across trucks
- Ocean: players are on a pirate ship; waves will rock the ship and shift stations, forcing players to swap roles (cooker becomes chopper)
- Spooky: levels are dark, lightning and flashlights are required to see
- Ice: slippery
I think I'm forgetting a few and some sections have mini-gimmicks per level (like rats that need to be whacked or they'll steal food).
As the game continued, we hoped there would be some greater variety.
For example, in levels where you make soup, each soup requires 3 of a single ingredient to make. There's never: 2 tomato, 1 onion soup or double meat burritos (always rice with chicken or beef).
What about levels with no elemental gimmick? Such as shorter timer levels that require team work to get orders out as fast as possible.

Workshop support
Letting players make their own content for the game and sharing it on the workshop would give this game so much more replay value.
As it stands, you only need to replay a level a couple times before you can three-star it.
Even without a modkit, players will find a way, especially since this is a Unity game.

The game in its current state, as of 10/16/2016, if okay if picked up on sale.
Otherwise, there isn't enough content to justify $15, at least in my opinion.

Releasing paid DLC for this game would be a low-blow. Please consider workshop support or a content update.

Reseña de Acceso anticipado
Everything about this game beautifully capture old arcade machines.

. . .

Even requiring friends to play :(

Meme gag aside, it really is a shame the game is local-only as my friends aren't into these kind of games. However, it is Early Access right now. So that may very well change down the line (and I hope it does).

Playing with bots was kind of fun. So, if you have people to play with, I reccommend trying it out.

In case anyone is wondering why I would buy a local-only game: it was part of a Humble Monthly (though this game was on my wishlist).

Game purchased Nov 1, 2015 for $20.29 USD.

TL;DR: this game is not worth $50.00 USD, the DLC is not worth $20.00 USD each.

There's a lot to complain about, but if you host your own server and tweak the right settings it's a fun vanilla experience with a lot of mods to spice up the game. If you're interested in the game, get it at ~$20.00 USD.

Also, stay away from official servers as they're very laggy. PvP is horribly unbalanced. It's definitely a game where you hunt for the perfect private server, or host your own.

The Time Issue

My biggest issue with the game is how reliant on timers and alarms the dinosaur taming/hatching requires. At default settings, it can take literal hours for a dinosaur to finish taming.

I remember the exact moment I ditched this game for a year. My friends and I had "raided" a Wyvern nest for its eggs. We hatched them to get our own baby Wyverns. It was about 2:00 AM and I said, "I'm going to sleep now, see ya, boys."

That's when my friend said, "Oh, remember to set an alarm for five hours so you can feed it or it'll die overnight."

Am I playing a dinosaur survival game or a raise-a-baby simulator?

Fixing the Time Issue

A year or so later, I'm back. But I'm hosting my own private server for friends and tweaked the settings so it doesn't rely on timers and alarms.

Typically, you'll see servers advertise "5x Taming" rates. Which means that if a dinosaur requires 100 Prime Meat over the course of 60 minutes to tame, instead it will now take 20 Prime Meat over the course of 12 minutes to tame.

That setting is okay, but I find it takes away from the resource gathering. Instead, there is a "Wild Dino Consumption" multiplier.

Using our previous example, if we set the the rate to "5x Consumption" a dinosaur will still require 100 Prime Meat but over the course of 12 minutes instead of 60. I find this doesn't make the game easier, instead reducing the amount of real time required.

Using the right settings, you can focus more on the fun parts of the game and not treat it like a mobile game.

The OG Size Bloater

If you think Modern Warfare 2019 has the worst file size compression, then you've never heard of ARK's horror stories. I have no idea how they managed to make the file sizes so un-optimized.

Every single small update, DLC/mod install, etc. will continue to balloon the size of the game uncontrollably. My personal record is ARK becoming 210GB with no mods.

Google "game compactor" and compress the game folder every time it updates to keep its file size down. Once that stops working: uninstall, reinstall, compress, repeat.
