I am so on the fence giving this a good review vs a bad one. It is a 50/50 game for me.

I love the story. The future and past parts are done well, in my opinion. SOME... not all.... SOME of the mechanics are interesting.

I HATE, other mechanics. Body shot firing and it misses at point black range. You have to stop to reload when I am use to other games reloading on the run. The worst mechanic is having to hide and sneak around and not be seen or.. BAM DEAD! Like, I JUST had a gun now I don't?

I have completed this game once years ago. I came back to stream it as one of my October game. first night got through 5 chapters dying once. Tonight, after not getting through chapter 6 and dying 8 times 4 in the first hour, and the last dying to a glitch jump. I decided to uninstall it and never play it again since I was just not enjoying the game.

I am recommending it because I do love the story and again it has interesting game play. I personally hate sneaking around and having to hide kinda games. Yes I have played outlast 1 and 2. But at least you go into the game knowing that is what the entire game is.

If you are a ninja level sneak Master and you don't mind, then it will be worth it to you. I really am only interested in the story but the game play style just isn't for me.

Let me start off by saying that I really WANT to be able to play this game. I love the overall feel and the spookiness. I like the idea of running around with a cell phone and having to snap pictures to kill ghosts.

HOWEVER, The first time I played this game I went into a room and was attacked by a ghost and I couldn't get out of the room. I snapped an image of her multiple times but it was never enough to kill her and thus after 2 hours into the game, i spent 3 trying to kill this thing and could never do it. this was in 2018.
Fast forward to 2025, I think to myself as long as I do not find and go into that room I should be fine. 2 hours into the game a ghost attacks me in the upstairs hallway. I snap five images and she still manages to kill me. after a few attempts I say screw this and try and run. Nope, follows and kills me. No big deal I will respawn and not go back down the hall way. I respawn and.... BAM... she attacks me the second I am back. I try and get my phone up to snap an image and BAM attacks me again. I can not turn to run nor can I get the camera up to snap an iamge faster than she can attack me. So... I can not play this game unless I wish to start back over. So, no I will cut my losses.

This evening I watched the movie and it was good it got me excited for the story line in here. I just think that it would be better if when you die you could respawn and the ghost is set back where it was and you can choose to walk down and kill it or try something different. I just don't like this locked into a combat situation without and escape. I do not recommend this game because of the game play mechanics. I would recommend if for the horror vibe and story I personally just can't get anywhere into the game to enjoy it.

Maybe you can.

If you are looking for a fun interesting story and you have to collect clues, investigate people and collect a bunch of random items just because you like collecting achievements, this is the game for you!

I have spent hours in both the base game and DLC. Here are my thoughts.

I am in no way a hardcore player. This is the only game I have ever played by this company. This game pissed me off so much because I didn't understand that is was out the box a difficult game.

I have since then completed 100% of the achievements and got through the DLC. The DLC is rough but if you you just want to progress and beat bosses with ease, there are options. Spirit summons, youtube cheese videos.

I enjoy exploring. I love the graphics and sometimes I want the challenge of a boss. However I have completed the game made it enjoyable on my terms and don't care if I don't kill the boss without a summons. I don't get paid to play games, so I take advantage of everything I can find and do in the game to go from point A to B.

I recommend the Base game and the DLC. I looked at the DLC as how can I defeat and cheese the new bosses. Not how do I learn the mechanics so people will know I am a good player. I just don't care, I want to beat the game start to finish. If I can do this and I am not a good player, then spend the money and beat it your way in anyway you see fit.

THIS GAME IS FUN!

For like 30 minutes to an hour. The first time "Jimmy" popped out it was a nice scare....

However, the controls to move about are "wonky" and often time I end up turning rather than moving forward. Or I move forward but passing the hallway I wanted to go because I didn't tilt the angel just right. Turned around at the elevator rather than press the button to open it because I was just a smidge off. Because of that....

Jimmy hits me I wake up have to travel from one room to another to grab 1 item I need before I can proceed to the quest at hand. After a while, I am just sick and tired of playing a cat and mouse game while trying to ask a ghost what this and this and this is.... After an hour of being attacked it is no longer fun. The constant reset is annoying when you die. The moment is annoying.

If you like to take your time and hide and do a lot of waiting here and there this game is for you. But if you want to progress in a meaningful time yeah well.... sorry. 3 hours I had 15% of the story because for about 30 to 45 minutes I kept passing a hallway I needed because I didn't see the movement around bent slightly to one area.

Love the movie like into and graphics. I like the idea. It feels like they just added the hide and seek feature to allow you to spend time on the game. I wanted more of the story but was too frustrated to continue because of the reset on death and the wonky movement.

I enjoyed LoF the original! Played it a few times. Liked the DLC and then was stoked that you made a LoF2 with Tony Todd. He was the saving grace in my opinion for that game, but the game play style in the 2nd LoF just wasn't something I enjoyed. If the game isn't outlast or a shooter game all the way through, then don't have something you have to avoid a hand full of times. Now I didn't give this a negative rating so far because, I do enjoy replaying the original and this has a few tweaks that keeps me interested. However, this game falls short on a few things listed below.

1) There are glitches that you can see empty blue spaces. The game crashed once on me when I opened a door and the hand wouldn't let go.

2) This is by far the one thing that makes me so irritated about this game. The script readings. It really sounds like you just got a couple of college interns to read scripts and said, "uhh.... try reading it with an accent." "How about you read this as a pertinacious older man". The first had 2 really good voice actors. The DLC did a wonderful and believable job with it's voice acting. Then you stepped it up and was like... GET TONY TODD! Then it was like, these children don't care it's all about the graphics, just bring some friends in and have them read these lines. I mean you can't have solid voice acting from the first game and then have a drama student from a local high school read these parts. Yes that sounds mean, but they are not the same level as the original and it shows when you have their readings mixed with the originals.

If for some reason you decide to make another LoF please spend the money and hire good actors or good readers. hell just spend the money and higher ONE PERSON. Trust me it will go along way. Vampires the Masquerade Bloodlines had some of the best voice actors and the graphics were, I guess, ok at the time it was released but horrible against today's standards. However, I play and stream that game every October. I was given it as a birthday gift back when it was on CD, but it is so enjoyable because of the voice actors. If you do not believe how 2 quality of script reading or voice actors should not be in the same game. The actor that reads for (Carson the bounty hunter) didn't do as good of a job in that read as about 95% of the others in the game and you pick it out right away. I just really think you dropped the ball with that part of the game, but I am not going to give you a thumbs down because I will enjoy the game. I just don't see myself playing through it over and over.

My advice, if someone doesn't have an accent, don't try and have them fake it. Also, try and find readers with different ages to their voices. Seemed like everyone that was reading was early to late 20's. Just didn't go with the scripts from Medical Doctors.

Absolute garbage! (( UPDATE AT THE END OF THE GAME ))

I enjoyed the story in Bio-hazard. LOVED The Village! I looked forward to playing and streaming this game and after 3 hours I am not done and really don't even want to finish playing it. I am taking my time looking for EVERYTHING and ANYTHING I can in the first play through. I am trying to really see what they have done and also try and figure out what the hell is going on. So what are my issues with this game?

1) Game reads that you can switch from 1st to 3rd player mode. NOPE! I can not stand a shooter game in 3rd person view especially one I just got done playing only to come back to it and be forced to adjust my play style. If I knew it was a first person only dlc, I would have just not bought it and watched the game play on youtube for the story.

2) Speaking of story.... yeah still waiting for the story. You get the start of a story in the beginning, then into it you have two pieces of a puzzle that so far the game doesn't even kinda try and explain while you are playing through. I assume they start with a story, want you to run through and KILL, SNEAK, HIDE, RUN and even play a stupid game or two and at the end tie everything together. So far, I don't even care enough about the story, because of the lack of, to even want to continue.

3) The weapon power and damage dealt are not consistent. So far only 2 types of enemies. The big one, you can not kill so don't bother trying. The other takes... 3, 4 or 5 shots to the head from your stock Lemi and 3, 4 or 5 shots with it altered. Also, I have a few time had to fire 4, 5, 6 and even 7 times into center mass to drop an enemy. Oh and the shotgun, 1 shot each... took out 3 enemies. Imagine my surprise when I turned to the 4th expecting the same thing only to have to pump 2 shells and a shot from the lemi to kill it. THAT WAS PURE ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥!

4) The ammunition, gathering of materials and weapon choice are rather slim and sorta pointless. The fact that guns are involved at are doesn't make much sense. I would rather they just had her learn different powers since that would make much more sense. Again, I haven't played the game all the way through, but seeing as how the story started her using guns is just silly.

Now, the graphics and voice acting and the start of the story is pretty good. They did a good job making Rose have Mia's features and not 100% cut and paste. So far that is the only good thing about the game. I will stream... hopefully the rest, tomorrow and then not play it anymore after. There have only been a few games, I have played, that felt like pulling teeth to get through and this is shaping up to be one of them.

I enjoy horror games and games with a great story. I have enjoyed a few dlcs as much as the games they belong too, but not Shadow of Rose. Wait for it to drop to $5 or less. $20 is too much.

(( UPDATE ))

Boss fight is just horrible. It was only luck I was able to use the powers I had to freeze her twice and when DAD gave me his powers.... are you ready for this .....The game would not allow me to move, use my mouse buttons or press any keys. I just stood there not being able to do anything but wait her the boss to deal the final blow.... which did not return me to THAT point of the game... nope it returned me to the beginning of the fight. So, HATE this game.

Allow first person mode would have made it sorta better but not really. I will NEVER finish this game again. I would LOBBY for my money back with such a garbage playstyle. Oh and the story, just watch a youtube video that is what I am about to do. This was a horrific design and one of 2 game I own that I will intentionally NEVER finish.

DO NOT BUY THIS GAME.

I love the "Horror Monsters" theme and I was interested in how a virus turned into a vampire, werewolf... The hidden explanations are brilliant!

As for the graphics, incredible. This game had the feel and graphics as an Outlast game, but instead of just running and hiding you get to fight back with knives, guns, bombs much like Killing Floor 2.

So this game is like 2 of the best games I play, for different reasons, rolled into one well done game!

The only single complaint I have is a stupid pointless one. ((SPOILER ALERT OF A SCENE))

When his hand is chopped off how did his shirt and coat sleeve not fall to the ground? If that can be explained, then tell me how this liquid medicine... repaired not only his severed hand... but mended his clothes as well back together perfectly? At least the jacket keeps the mended mark at the end.

All I can say is finally the snake oil from the traveling salesman pitch that "it works on everything" really comes true. LOL

Seriously though, buy this game, play it and don't try and fly through it. Enjoy the detail that was put into it! 1st walk through was just over 15 hours for me and I enjoyed every minute!

Absolutely buy this game. I love jump scares! This had them. I was readying myself for one at each corner, every time I turned around I mean I love being on edge a bit through out. I have not even gone all the way through and I would still have paid a higher price for this game. BUY IT!

I just couldn't finish it...

Good Points: The design of the game is well done. The voice acting is rather good (as in not sounding like it is read from a script). The music and in game sound, wonderful.

Bad points: The entire start of the game I just wanted the main Character to be killed off. The endless preachy speech. The voice acting, although believable, the script was horrible. The way their tones or pitch in their voice didn't agree to the emotion to which they should be answering. Like someone excited while giving bad news... It was dragging on... I was waiting for anything scary to happen. A jump scare just some random black cat running across the screen, something. I was reclined back in my chair trying not to fall asleep.

Now, maybe this is a perfect game for someone to really take their time, read and get immersed into the story, I am not that person. Also, I would NOT recommend anyone to stream this game as I just did. Play it alone.

I would rate this a 2 out of 5 stars. It doesn't make me want to spend any money on the full version. I'm sorry.
