A true love letter to old school 3D-action games and its various inspirations. Between its more novel elements and variations on genre staples, the dev team clearly gets what made the best of those older games so appealing. Perhaps few refinements short of being a true classic in the genre, but still an impressive and satisfying result for Reply Game Studios' first action game like this. I look forward to any potential sequel/successor this team puts out!

Other than the kino rooftop scene with Yuzuki, there's not much to enjoy here.
The writing. Is especially. Annoying.
You'll find yourself advancing the text 3+ times on average for each textbox because of the repetitive short sentences.
Worse than its predecessor, Sakura Spirit.

Solid game with some great flashy action. It's fairly straightforward, and once you understand the system and fundamentals, it turns into the kind of mental battle you can expect from more footsie-based fighters like SF and KoF. With an eclectic collection of indie reps, the game has plenty of charm to carry it despite the basic modes and menus it has to offer. I never knew I wanted a buff Shovel Knight yelling "Nani?!" until I played Blade Strangers.
Netcode is solid, and the command-style inputs rather than motions leaves way less room for lag to prevent your inputs from correctly happening.

As a celebration of gaming and other cultures, there's a lot to enjoy.

A challenging action platformer featuring large levels and fairly tight controls.
Featuring lots of wall jumping, sliding, and air-dashing, the game is heavily focused on movement-related challenges.
The mechanics alone are solid enough that fans of this type of gameplay are likely to get their money's worth, however if you're looking for a good story or good art, this game is lacking. The artwork is serviceable for the indie game that it is, and lends itself well to an atmospheric quality much of the game is going for, especially with the very vague and mysterious plot. Unfortunately the mystery is rather uninteresting as mediocre writing brings it down. Music is decent, and doesn't grow tiresome if you find yourself struggling with the same obstacle over and over. You will fail a lot, but respawning happens immediately, and you can press the assigned key to respawn anytime you want if you aren't pleased with any unforced errors. The developer's followup game, Teleportals, is overall better if you're looking for a platformer, but fans of more action-oriented gameplay will have a good amount to dig into with this title.

Cute little adventure game full of puzzles!
Many are straightforward while some really test your intuition.
Artwork is great and the absurdly crass humor definitely has its laugh-out-loud moments.
The light amount of scavenger-hunting changes up the pace, complemented by maps that are sized just right and distinctive enough that navigating and recalling details is easy.
Good soundtrack and sound design overall. The nonsensical vocalizations along with the writing brings many of the characters to life.
Overall a great and polished experience, would love to see more from this project.

A short romp reminiscent of the flash game era served up in HD.
If you played a few flash games at night in your adolescence you know what you're getting into.
