I'm not very far into the game.
I know it's good.
There are a lot of elements contributing to my opinion. Let's break it down.

1. Sound design
The score by Mick Gordon is amazing. It perfectly sets the mood for ripping and tearing your way through hordes of demonic abominations. The sound effects in the game, and Mick's creative use of peculiar sounds, blend together into the auditory equivalent of whatever is in a berserk pack. However, It's not only thanks to master Mick that the game sounds as crisp as stomping on piles of gore can sound. The foley artists and sound designers or whatever you call them have intensively labored to make every break, crush, gush, and yank (yeah, as in yanking out an eyeball) to not only sound visceral and satisfying, but tasteful too, which brings me to...

2. The visuals.
The game looks great, graphically, and this is id we're talking about. They''re the engine guys, and it shows. The game runs incredibly well, getting a very solid 60 (solid as in a tungsten cube). Graphics isn't everything though. How is the art direction? Better than DOOM 2016, which had excellent art direction. This game is full of breathtaking vistas, which you might just miss because you'll be too busy performing glory kills on baddies. Let's talk about how the glory kills look, shall we?. Just like how they sound, they are brutal, gushing, visceral stomps, smashes, and slices that manage to be as terribly gory as they are easy to stomach. The direction they took the glory kills ensures that two things won't happen:
You won't be disturbed
You won't get tired of it.

3. The shooting.
It's great. There are many reasons for this. I'm not a skilled enough writer to articulate how good this game feels.

4. The movement
Uh oh, first person game with actual platforming?
Hear me out. The platforming in this game feels better than a lot of third person games, and it's also very forgiving too. If you fall off a platform or down a pit you get teleported back, minus some health. You also get two jumps, and later on you unlock two dashes. You have a lot of freedom in the air. Each jump is taller than you are, and the dashes push you forward a couple meters, meaning you have a lot of range to jump over pits, climb on top of objects, and surprise your enemy from above.

5. My girlfriend bought it for me <3
Thanks sabs, love you <3

having a job and being an entrepreneur is boring until you put it in space and do it in a spaceship. you can do all sortsa stuff. look at stars and planets. go to space stations. ride a little buggy around on moons and stuff. take out a lunar colony's only form of outside communication dooming them to starve to death quietly for like 400 dollars. die of hypoxia in space.

Since CoD: WWII was recently released, I decided to run through a few of my favorite Call of Duty games and give them a good once over. I'm judging them based on several criteria.
  1. How is the gameplay?
  2. How does it look?
  3. How's the story?
  4. What theme does it convey?

So, now that introductions are over, let the review begin.

How's the gameplay?
There are a lot of aspects of later CoD games that I don't like. They aren't in this one. The controls make a lot of sense, and give the player more freedom than later games, which are simplified, but more restricted. You can make use of Q and E, which allows you to peek around covers, and is useful for slicing the pie on stealthier missions. This is one feature that I sorely miss from games that come after this. There's also less "Yeah, no ♥♥♥♥-" moments. The objectives make sense, and the game trusts that you have enough of a brain to follow them and understand what to do. There are no blips on the screen telling you who to follow or where to go, they're limited to the compass.
So, the objective system is a lot simpler, and the controls are better. How about the shooty bits? Well, I can't really explain it, but aiming and shooting just feels a lot better in this game than in say, Modern Warfare 2. The aiming can only be described as crisp and clean, and shooting feels pretty good, as all the guns sound and feel like actual guns. There is noticeable recoil, and muzzle climb, but not to an unmanageable degree. This contrasts between Modern Warfare 2, where the aiming feels a little more spongy and slow.
How about the difficulty? Well, the game has four difficulties. Recruit, Regular, Hardened, and Veteran. Recruit is piss easy, Regular is a slight challenge, Hardened is a pretty good Challenge, and Veteran is insane. A skilled player playing on recruit will get bored within minutes. It's still very possible to die, but playing it carefully like you would on higher difficulties is just boring. Regular is slightly more exciting, where the enimies target you more often, and bullets do more damage. During harder segments a skilled player might die a few times. Hardened is where things get interesting. A few shots will kill you, and enemies target you more easily, and much more often. Cover is essential. In previous difficulties, you could run around and have fun with the dudes, but hardened brings it to another level. I haven't really played veteran all that much, but It's quite difficult. Enemies have almost human reaction times, targeting you and returning fire. You're damaged like you actually would be, maybe being able to keep going after getting shot in the arm or something, but dying within one shot to center mass.

And that concludes the gameplay portion. Now for:

How does it look?
Well, it definitely doesn't look bad. It's aged very well. The textures look good, fire looks good, everything looks pretty alright. It looks so alright that I didn't really even pay attention to it, and focused on gameplay among other things.

That was quick. how about:

How's the story?
The story revovles around two wars. There is a war in the Middle East (when isn't there?) and a war in Russia. The war in Russia centers around a group called the Ultranationalists. They want Russia to return to the communistic dictatorship of Soviet Russia. The OpFor in the Middle East is supported by the Ultranationalists. The story isn't really focused on characters. It's more about global politics. It played on real actual fears at the time of the games release. What if they had a nuke? What if they used a nuke? In order to appreciate the story you need to keep your ears open and watch the cutscenes between missions, because the situation isnt really described in detail during missions. It is good enough to be quite tense. Near the end of the game a really big bad thing happens, and it acutally made me go like "oh ♥♥♥♥" and it was quite a rush. So, story's good.

And finally:

How's the theme?
The overall theme of the game is very clear. War is bad. Nukes are bad. The military industrial complex is bad. Whenever you die the game displays a quote. These quotes fall under three categories. Some quotes tell you the price of a common asset to the military. Some quotes are pulled from soldier's journals. Some quotes talk about how we won't survive WWIII. It's all very thought provoking.

Overall, should you get it?
Yes.
This game was put out long before the CoD games shot way down in quality. It's actually a very tight and engrossing shooter that will keep you playing for hours. If you have a spare 20 bucks, buy it. If its on sale for half off or whatever for sure buy it.

Early Access Review
It's not very good. You get what you pay for. It's best to pay for a game like ARMA or Red Orchestra, where you get a realistic WWII experience that is extremely atmospheric. I can completely see the appeal in this game, though; it's better than nothing.
