Largely fixed the issues I had previously. Still prefer DR 2.0 though, the lack of rallycross hurts!

yes it's expensive but that doesn't make it a bad sim, it makes it a good and less expensive alternative to real life track days

As an old, oldschool Rainbow Six: Raven Shield player - this literally nails the itch I've had for years. I'll write more in depth when I have the opportunity, but I am going to give this a super solid recommend to anyone who wants to experience a tactical, realistic game.

I purchased the game on sale - so it's coming from the perspective of not paying full price.

Overall, I enjoy this game. If you're the type that gets enjoyment out of unlocking new cosmetics, weapons, skills, etc, especially when that is oriented towards something you enjoy (i.e. in this case, the Naruto universe,) it's a fun game. A lot of the content goes over my head I fell off fairly early on in Naruto, picked up bits and pieces of Shippuden and never touched Boruto, so a lot of the characters mean nothing to me. Having said that - I would totally pay money -again- just to be able to run around and use Haku and Zabuza's ninjutsu and cosmetics.

Fighting is fun as hell - and it's great to run around as your favorite characters and use their abilities. I have to say, they are implemented really nicely in their mechanics. Things like the Sharingan work great, and it's fun to play against others in a big fight.

The overall in-game content is a bit lacking, and I do hope they add some new mechanics and game-modes/overall PvP and PvE content to it, especially given the price-point and the cost of DLCS, which are essentially just new characters/cosmetics. I could see this being a seriously big game given a little bit more love and promotion.

I'll update this as I go along and play through it, so far, I'm about three hours in, and this is a perspective coming from a RE 1-4 fan, though I never went much further than that, so take that as you will.

At this point, three hours in - I am at a mixed feeling about the game. I'm not entirely sure whats going on, and I feel as though I've been lead through three hours worth of lead up, with no respite, no time to collect myself or really put any sort of semblance of story to whats going on.

Having said that - the first hour of the game scared the absolute ♥♥♥♥ out of me, the game does a fantastic job of atmospherics, gets you really into the feeling of each place, but I do still feel like I'm being lead by the hand a little bit.

Despite being 'lead' through each area, I also find it hard to 'find' or 'notice' stuff, which is absolutely part of the game design, but feels like puzzle-y and less of a win/satisfaction when you do find stuff, and more of a "oh, I should've noticed that before."

Overall, it's got me intrigued enough to want to find out more. Enough that I may put my game on pause, go back, and play RE7 now. So.... I recommend it.

*I'd like to note my Steam hours don't reflect my gameplay hours, I've put over a 150 into my copy on the Switch.

Long-time Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons player here, with the original Friends of Mineral Town being my nostalgic favourite - so this review is heavily judgemental in all aspects given how much this title means to me specifically. I have fond memories of playing this on long-trips and late at night on my GBA back in the day. So.. with that out of the way ..

SOS: FOMT does a fantastic job of recreating the title. There. If you trust a long term fan of the series opinion who has been disappointed time and time again by the mainline series (HM), then look no further. If you're interested why, I'll offer the simple reasons below..

What it does right
Right off the bat - the graphics are an adorable improvement, with my only complaint being on some of the new portrait art, but overall, that's overshadowed by how great the game looks. Obviously - it's a pretty bold move to take a nostalgically adored game like FOMT, with it's memorable pixel art and characters, and transfer that into a 3D environment. But they really pulled it off. Everything looks just as cute as you imagined it would when you were a child.

Furthermore, they have expanded on several of the areas, which feel like huge expansions, given how used to the size of the town an old player like me is. On top of that, the new areas look great. They aren't just added in as an afterthought, they make sense with the layout of the town, and even make travelling a little easier in some cases.

My Complaints?
They could have pushed it a little further - while there is new text dialogue, a new (generally unloved) set of bachelor/ettes, there is a few oversights that could have made the game a bit better. They really should have capitalized on new generation console and pc technology to bring out the best in the game - perhaps a little more ambience in the rendering and lighting, stronger cutscenes, that sort of thing.

Overall
If this is your first entry to the HM/SOS series, or you are a nostalgic, longtime player like me that has a fondness for FOMT, this is 100% worth your time and money. Speaking on behalf of the oldheads .. remember when FOMT time sucked you into doing every little thing before you turned it off? How there was always something to forage, some animal to tend to, some crop that was only a day or two away from fruition, so you had to keep playing? This did the same damn thing to me.

Recommended.

A very good branch off from Squad - I've actually found myself playing this more often than Squad. Unreal Engine allows for some very visceral experiences regarding visual and audio effects - and the PS team doesn't hold up on utilizing that. On top of that - it's a small dev team, with a serious amount of dedication. Good guys and gals all around.
