Quite difficult. Enemies are extremely accurate and you die in one hit - expect to die quite a lot at first. Fortunately, checkpoints are sprinkled about quite generously and respawning when you die is essentially instantaneous. That, combined with the awesome soundtrack, cool cyberpunk aesthetic and fun wall-riding mechanics, more than make up for the high difficulty.

For new players, even without spending a dime and just playing the three campaigns available for free as part of the base game, you're getting a ton of content for free and it doesn't feel like you're missing out on a whole lot by not purchasing the the remaining expansions. If you end up liking the game I recommend picking up the Forsaken and Shadowkeep expansions during a sale.

If this game was any more self-aware it would start building killer cyborgs to send back in time in order to wipe out the future leader of the resistance. It oozes with eighties nostalgia, referencing eighties action and sci-fi movies in particular, and presents it all in a slick, tongue-in-cheek package.

Gameplay is a bit streamlined compared to other games in the series, with skills being automatically unlocked depending on player level rather than selected from a skill tree, and a lot fewer weapons - which just means there aren't any filler weapons that are immediately forgotten the moment you unlock better ones.

Excellent retro/synthwave soundtrack by Power Glove. Very reminiscent of early-mid eighties sci-fi movie soundtracks, such as the original Terminator and Blade Runner.

My only major gripe is that it's a bit on the short side, being easy to 100% (including all the collectibles) in under ten hours. That does however prevent it from becoming too repetitive and gives it a bit more replay value than other games in the series.

An amazing update to a classic shooter. A game that is as beautiful as it is fun.
