Dan, it's been a while, and I do not recollect how/where we met. However, that doesn't matter. You're a beautiful person, and someday we'll be laying dead in the same earth together. I hope this message finds you well.

oh man I'm an idiot. apparently only the non-beta final steam version has the sounds. they correspond to the damage sounds in that sound pack. the impale flesh sounds are 100% based on MOH allied assault's bullet impact flesh sounds
Dan loeb 22 Jun, 2019 @ 1:01pm
yeah, not quite sure which beta version had them, the 3.1 i downloaded doesn't, but Medal of honor: allied assault has some very similar sounds, minus the screams. they're in the "main" subdirectory, in what is basically a .zip archive named Pak3.pk3
Dan loeb 22 Jun, 2019 @ 9:18am
and other similar sounds in that pack were from medal of honor allied assault, but edited. my guess is that they were all taken from some mod that used those sounds and added in screams
Dan loeb 22 Jun, 2019 @ 8:18am
@hi I actually wasn't the one who started using the impact flesh sounds first, pretty sure some of the RHA (rock hard animations, defunct website long gone) people started that trend. they were from the day of defeat game beta. the one on steam doesn't have the same sound files, but the original beta/mod does.

yeah even WAW has a higher playerbase still lately.
SnortsALot 13 Jul, 2015 @ 9:41am
As you know the player base for the latest CoD has dwindled down to where BO2 has more people playing. It is hard to understand why the Dev refuses to add any features or fix some bugs, (Fov resets to 65 quite a lot) on PC. It is like SHGames has no idea what is happening on PC. Activision support is a joke and since the recent patch some CUSTOMERS must disable something they paid for (DLC) to get into lobbies.
I have tweeted Mr Condrey about the state of the game on PC, I really don't expect a reply and he has never replied. It is frustrating since AW is a good game but could be much more on PC if SHGames would just throw us a bone...
Dan loeb 12 Jul, 2015 @ 12:37pm
long story shorter: idk.
Dan loeb 12 Jul, 2015 @ 12:37pm
I think america needs better mental health care and screenings for mental health issues that prevent sale of weapons to them. I live in a state with tons of gun manufacturers, Colt got it's start here, but they've been one of the more responsible gun brands in my eyes. it's mainly new starters in the market that do stupid things, like try to make different forms of bumpfire stocks that aren't illegal yet, or other AOW ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ (bumpfire stocks allow rapid fire from a semi-auto weapon, atleast thats my understanding) (aow refers to any other weapon, a classification given to a gun by the ATF if it does not meet other criteria for normal weaponry. a zip gun would be in this class, something like a lipstick container that fires a 9mm round when you press it, cellphone that fires a 22, for a while, short barrel shotguns were on this list too, like sawed off barrel ones with no stock.)
Dan loeb 12 Jul, 2015 @ 12:37pm
feels weird when real gun companies sponsor games that portray gun violence fictionally, because real gun violence hurts real people, doing stuff like that trivializes the pain that real guns can cause in the wrong hands. not to get political, I'm okay with people having guns if they know enough about them and don't bring them into resturants (seriously, american stupidity knows no bounds when guns are involved) also when I'm hiking on a safe and happy mountain trail where no animals are allowed to be hunted anyways, a guy with a semi auto ak-clone on his back is scary to see, and a bit overkill for an area with no bears, and at most, snakes that could dealt with by a concealed/open carry revolver or handgun. though all I'd personally do is keep an eye out and avoid snakes, rather than carry a huge-ass rifle on my back to make myself noticable and stand out. long story short, pro freedom, anti-stupidity.
Dan loeb 12 Jul, 2015 @ 12:31pm
short answer: I don't know. IW used to be great. until they hit it big with COD4, and then the followup MW2 had the standard lack of options we often feel today, don't get me wrong, the first two cod's were pc only originally, and had after the fact console ports that did alright. but the playerbase that persisted and the sales figures that also steadily grew on consoles with COD4 were the big factor that MW2 was a sell-out of sorts. great game, just lacking the soul that COD4 had. every gun is now a tacticool mall-ninja's dream weapon, instead of feeling authentic like the first game. MW3 pushed that even further, the remington RSASS sniper, ACR, and MSR all have the remington logo stamped on the weapon right in the player's view area. pretty obvious product placement if you ask me.
Dan loeb 12 Jul, 2015 @ 12:19pm
due to the normal two year cycle, MW3 was not on track for a nov 2011 launch. this stuff all happened towards the end of spring/early summer in march-june 2010, which gave sledgehammer about 1 and a half years instead of a full 2 years to do something they'd never done before. so thats why the reskin method really started there, and MW3 did gangbusters. more than ANY entertainment product had before, and it stayed top dog till black ops II took the throne from it (but still holds to this day) and entertainment includes movies, music, and games.

MW3 sold $400 million worth of copies in the first 24 hours of launch in US and UK alone.

Blops 2 sold $500 million, same circumstances.

the reason the trend hasn't continued for ghosts and advanced warfare is the console gen split, combined with battlefield 3/4 gaining ground in the market at the same time. hardline did show a downward spiral like ghosts did imo.
Dan loeb 12 Jul, 2015 @ 12:18pm
also sledgehammer was groomed by activision just for COD when the issues popped up. sledghammer was working on a third person action game within the COD franchise to be released in the summer of 2012 (after MW3 by IW, but before Blops2) so it seems they were trying to turn it into a twice a year thing at one point, then a few months into dev the ♥♥♥♥ hit the fan, west and zampella left, as did many other key employees, and activision wasn't confident that IW could survive the next months, let alone make MW3. so they turned sledgehammer into a full dev studio, focused them on MW3 (which I personally feel had a great ending sequence, the capt price ending felt like how duke nukem forever should have ended. kills everyone, kills boss, smokes a cigar over the guys corpse. it was great) the problem is with the time constraints,
Dan loeb 12 Jul, 2015 @ 12:18pm
probably because IW got greedy, evidenced by them having a 42 MILLION dollar bonus for MW2 paid out to 39 dev studio members I mean, that's a ridiculous sum of money for people who were lead and middle tier development members (source: IWEG vs Activision, when 39 former and present members of infinity ward sued activision over failure to pay the same bonus that made west and zampella leave when they didn't get it, it states the group's bonus totalled 40-50 million acros 39 employees, activision settled it out of court at 42mil) I don't care if you're a janitor or are the CEO of starbucks, a bonus of 1mil per person for any job is ludirus.
SnortsALot 12 Jul, 2015 @ 9:05am
Great info thanks pepper. Treyarch seems to know what PC players want, The numbers playing BO2 says that. I understand PC is the ugly brother but 3arc seems to support us (meaning Theator mode, ping #, no p2p, etc) why has SHGames and IW not gone to the same lenghts 3arc has?
Dan loeb 12 Jul, 2015 @ 4:51am
don't get me wrong, I like treyarch, I've liked them since they were xatrix entertainment making quake expansion packs, and they're the best COD developer left. I just don't like activision or the everything has to be super profitable or you'll get your studio shutdown outlook they have on games. it seems like all activision makes now is fps and movie/tv show tie-in games. they used to have some nice action-adventure games, a whole slew of sports games (not my thing, but diversity is always good) and rythym games, etc. now it's either spongebob or soap, airbenders or airbombs. seems kinda silly when the fps market can get oversaturated, and the market for movie tie-ins is a burst market, a modest amount of sales on launch, then a slow drip to nothing.

http://gtm.steamproxy.vip/app/311210/discussions/0/611704730327095271/

they actually didn't specify what engine they're using in the video, and it's second hand info from a streamer who was invited with others to try out the pc build, but typically each engine is that studio's previous engine, with enhancements combined from the other studio's previous engine, plus their own enhancements, so it's an iterative process. Seems like the engine bits they upgraded based on AW weren't optimized well so they're fixing them. just my take-away.
SnortsALot 11 Jul, 2015 @ 9:46pm
Do you have a link to where someone at Treyarch said about modifying the AW engine.
Just wondering why Treyarch would use the AW engine as the BO2 engine is superior in my opinion.
Dan loeb 11 Jul, 2015 @ 6:33pm
well, it's never an immediate focus for them. typically the pc port is the last thing they start work on. treyarch said they had to recode most of the AW engine for blops 3 and they're still going to do more to get black ops III to run and scale well. treyarch also started building the pc port for blops 3 alongside the console versions, which is a good sign i think.
SnortsALot 11 Jul, 2015 @ 6:02pm
Done in house... If they have the programmers to port it over you would think they knew how to add ping numbers, etc. Why is it Treyarch that has to carry the team on PC?
Dan loeb 11 Jul, 2015 @ 5:36pm
it was done inhouse at sledgehammer games i believe, they handled all versions of it to my knowledge, I added you as friend just to tell you that, because i can't seem to post on your profile or send a message without doing that.
