Had some doubts, because the game is a sequel to a... i dont know, 15 years old game? Too lazy to check.

This is not a revolution. It is even hard to call this game evolution. Basically SotSE:Rebellion with some polish.
Basegame is identical. Some things were added, some removed, System rotation is interesting,

Does the game have flaws? Yes. Mostly the same as original. So you know what You are into. The game is a safe choice for people who know orginal, and decent choice for peole who find games like stellaris too complicated. If somebody has doubts, pick Rebellion, and test it out for cheap. Its basically the same but improved to modern systems.

Good game, that is a must for Warhammer fans. Game has so many pros, that it is kinda pointless to list them all.

So I wont list them. Assume there are many.

I will list Cons though, because they are rather sizable.
- Bugs, bugs, bugs. A LOT OF BUGS. 8 months after realease. Some are really baffling. Missing characters, aiming problems, enemies not atacking, bugs galore. 8 months, many patches... Its incredible.
-50 levels of character development. Some people may like it but its plainly too much. BG1 had 9 if I remember correctly. BG2 had 14 (You started at 9 obviously). I dont remember a classic RPG with so many levels. Game is long, sure, but 50 is too much. It should be 20 at max.
-Too many different skills. Very unrestricted character development, lack of skill trees, some skills have prerequsite but its usually one skill. Whole character development system is extremely overcomplicated. I get what developers were aiming for, but frankly this is harcore. One could spend more time in character development screen than actual game.
-Ship combat is lackluster. To be fair it is obvious things have been cut. One can still see that there were supposed to be different ships available in ship menu. They didnt remove ship selection arrows but they are non functional.

All in all its a great game, but in the end its very hard to love. I ended up levelling my haracter every 5 levels instead every one because there were constant interruptions.

The DLC contains a lot of recycled material, but is ok contentwise.

What isnt ok is the amount of bugs initial realease introduced to the game.

I actually liked the game and wish there was more DLC for it.

Since obvious contender is dungeons series I ll just skip to what is the difference:

-this game is much more base-centric. A full campaign on one base can take tens of hours if you are going for completionist. That means you get accustomed to Your base, and form a bond with it.
-Game is much more chaotic. 300 population of a base is no joke. You feel like You are not in control sometimes. That can be a turn off for some people.
-Heat system is tedious but with good base planning it can be ignored.

As someone who enjoyed Bomber Crew on PS5 I was very optimistic to this. Unfortunately game fails in almost all aspects.

-ONE ship type? Really? Bomber Crew had Lancaster and B-17. Here where literally sky is the limit You have ONE?
-Game has become tedious. You are slaughtering aliens by the dozen, but jump points greately limit your movement. In Bomber Crew one could climb to high altitude to lose most pests. Here there is no way.
-Boarding mechanics seem bareboned and an afterthought. Also game forces You to take 3 crew members on an action when for very long time You will be able to take only 2 guns...
-Game somehow feels less polished than predecessor. I swear that spaceship and bomber make the same sound when in high speed mode...

The development of this game is a mess.

CA clearly has no vision for development, or the game due to its size simply outgrown their capabilities.

Some races get constant content, some are left untouched for years.

DLCs are left lacking, get delayed, changed, fixed and tweaked with no end. Development teams change which causes further delays. Current content arrival is roughly half of what was promised, and third of what is needed to keep this game fun and engaging.

CA clearly moved to other projects...

Waited till patch 1.1 to write a review and the it occured to me that this game isnt worth a proper review.

So to keep things short: the main sin of this game arent bugs but stupidity. Proof?

-2d sprites as cars in the distance. Really? Is this doom3d? We have 2021, a basic low polygon 3d object isnt something you have to skimp on... Also these sprites arent objects that gain details as you come closer but disapperar... Just why would you do something like this in a 2020 game...
-dumpster fires not connected to said dumpsters. This is plainly a lack of proper object mechanic. We now have a flying fireballs...
-teleporting police. Another mechanic that doesnt work not because it is broken but because its not there. Replaced with abomination whose creator didnt even bother to add minimal teleporting distance...

For more just watch youtube but dont concentrate on the funny result, but on what the game creator was thinking.

The problem here is not that this game is unpolished. That can be fixed with patches. What cant be fixed with patches is simply lack of mechanics... Does anyone really believe that they will add a working police system in the future? With driving police cars? Develop ai algoritm for that if they didnt do it to begin with?

Or they will recheck all map, connect dumpster fires to actual dumpsters (after adding that feature)?

Rework vechicle spawning at the distance? thats a game engine change btw

This game isnt unpolished. Its simply unfinished product full of holes that were quickly stuffed with whatever had roughly matching shape without consideration for overall consistency and quality.

This game doesnt need patches. It needs to disappear for 2-3 years and return as a compleately reworked product "no mans sky"-like.

There is some confusion on the internet to what this actually is. Many people see this as a shameless cashgrab from Beamdog on something they dont own.

Personally I disagree.

As a proud owner of every Black Isle game when it was first realeased (YAY, 5 cd swapping time) I am happy to see one of my most beloved game in my steam library, with most of essential mods integrated as a one package.

Beamdog didnt manage to dodge some controversies, but personally it doesnt kill the experience for me. They actually did a pretty good job with Dragonspear expansion, and brought an old classic that, lets face it, noone would have time to install and mod today to a new generation.

And since game itself is great its worth to get it.
