I can play as an Australian hunter who shoots piss-filled darts 50 meters away into a giant russian man's head before being killed by a crazy american flying through the air with a rocket launcher that doesn't deal damage, who then burns to death at the hands of a 'person' who thought the fire was rainbows.

I encourage you to try this game out if you can play with friends and you're ready to die a lot to learn this game. It can have its moments that no other game can come close to recreating, but lacks any real driving force behind the giant battles which leaves you wanting so much more from the game that has failed to deliver for 2 years.

Planetside 2 features large, 600 v 600 v 600 battles on large 8km x 8km maps with a dozen bases that can easily fit the largest battlefield maps in them. Battles can be an intense fire fight as players use tanks, bombers, and variety of troop transports to gain ground and territory. These battles can be a lot of fun... IF a lot of variables are just right.

Battles often have one side heavily out numbering the other, spawn camping the smaller group in their spawn while they wait for a cap timer. When big battles do happen, they rarely continue between bases. When one side loses the majority of the players scatter as the winning force then swoops in to take the connecting territories with no resistance util they get bored and try to find another fight.

The game seems afraid to give any direction to the players. this leads to new players wondering where to go or do. Its a game where coordination is required, but gives no tools to the players to do so. squad and platoon leaders have very little tools to keep a squad together or hand out objectives. The devs did start to implement a mission system to help with this, but stopped half way through and theres no word when they'll finish it.

A lot of key features are also half implemented. Resources are used in the game to purchase vehicles and consumables for infantry. however, there is no way currently to get low on resources through normal play for very long. Players gain a steady rate of resources. there is no way to impact that rate when there should be to provide secondary objectives to players behind enemy lines.

I could go on and on on how many things are half implemented or missing from this game that would make it a truly great game. However, the devs at SOE really fumbled it up bad. One of the former leads, Matt Higby, even admitted to some mistakes early on that cost the game dearly in design choices and in handling development of the game.

While i don't recommend spending any money on this game, if your interested you should check it out since it's free. just don't expect too much depth.

Pros:
- Huge Battles with hundreds of players
- Runs well considering whats going on (on some computers)
- local, squad, and platoon voice chat in game
- Playing with an outfit leads to some awesome moments you can't replicate in any other game

Cons
- Incomplete game. 2 years after release the game is missing SO MANY features, a good amount of them could be considered key or core features too
- Lack of direction means battles or a cluster♥♥♥♥ as people wander around killing each other wondering what to do
- No real depth in any of the game's systems. Once you know how to kill efficiently alone or in a group you'll get bored quickly.
- Runs poorly (on some computers), inconsistent stability across different machines.
