Excerpt

First of all, let me be clear that this is a multiplayer game. Although you can play in singleplayer, I'd strongly recommend playing this game on a server.
Eco feels like Minecraft for grown-ups, with its beautiful art style, co-op-driven gameplay, and proficiency system offering an experience, similar to no other game. It’s a game where you have to plan your actions and interactions with others and the environment.

In-depth review

A dive into "Eco": an engaging, interactive, and educational experience like no other game

General experience

After spending roughly 116 hours in this game I can summarize it as an enjoyable journey. The UI is user-friendly, and although it can get a bit overwhelming for newer players to get the hang out of it, you'll get used to it soon. The learning curve in my experience has been relatively smooth, allowing players to get acclimated quickly.

Gameplay

Eco, similar to Minecraft, excels in its core mechanics, which revolve around gathering resources, crafting, and building.
Inventory management is fairly easy, and the building system leaves some room for your imagination. Can you think of a certain building you want to build? I assure you: you can create it ingame. Whether it’s a simple wooden house you'd like to build or an industrial-inspired building: you can build it.
A factor that shouldn't be neglected is food. Unlike in other games where you eat only a certain type of food, you will have to diversify your meals. The more diversification involded in your calorie intake, the better debuffs you're getting.
A core mechanic, the skill points system, is the game's standout feature. Unlike in many other games where you can become a jack-of-all-trades, this game encourages specialization, leading players to collaborate and rely on each other's abilities, like interdependence in the real world, making this game feel rewarding and authentic.
Another aspect that plays a huge role is the law. Like in real life, laws can be passed to accentuate the government's ideas and plans (yes you can build your own government in this game). These laws can of course be adapted to bring about or avoid certain situations, leading to, for example: players that pollute the environment, having to pay "Amount X money" for each pollution point. The creation of more sophisticated laws is somewhat difficult at first, but creating laws is based on simple logic, comparable to writing lines of code, you'll get used to it.

Graphics and Sound

I really enjoy the simple yet overhauled graphic style of Eco, it’s the simplicity and functionality that please my eyes.
The game's sound is quite enjoyable, contributing to the immersive "Society-Sim"

Educational Value

For those, who are wandering through the world with open eyes and clear perception, this game also offers an educational factor that cannot be overlooked. This game teaches you basic concepts like supply and demand, environmental sustainability (yes, your oil rigs do affect the environment of the world. I am looking at you Mr. I want to be rich and want to have the oil monopoly, hehe. Anyways...) and collaborative societal goals (in this case: a meteor will destroy the world in 30 days and you, as a society have to stop it) on a subconscious level. It's also a great experience seeing real-world concepts successfully implemented in the game (analyses of item prices, selling and renting property deeds, etc., etc.). It’s something that enhances the game experience, at least in my case.

Community and Support

I've experienced the Eco community to be very friendly and helpful towards beginners.
My first experience has been positive, with veteran players eager to help me get started and explaining basic concepts to me.

Conclusion
Eco is a remarkable game with a game experience similar to none, offering a unique multiplayer experience and leading to unconsciously learning certain concepts of our society. Its lovely graphic style, core mechanics, and educational part make it a standout niche game that feels like a sophisticated, adult version of Minecraft. With some enhancements and additional features, I'm looking forward to what direction the devs will push this game in the future
