First off, I really enjoy this game. It contains mechanics reminiscent of more venerable franchises without feeling derivative in a negative way. I just wanted to get that out of the way before moving on to the less positive aspect of this review.

I bought this game and put a few hours in. The very next day, a small patch was pushed. This patch removed my ability to access my save. I was 2.5 hours in, so that isn't a big deal. I spend 2.5 hours staring at walls sometimes.

What is a big deal is the clear impression that this developer will probably break the game continuously. They clearly didn't test the patch before it was pushed, or they would have caught the bug. The dev's current solution requires the use of DropBox which I don't use because they are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

While I really enjoy this game, I do not trust the developer to not break it. I would advise caution despite all of the positive reviews. The development aspect is not what they have reviewed. They reviewed what they observed at the time. If I reviewed this game purely on the 2.5 hours I put in, it would be positive.

I won't ask Valve for my money back, but I will caution potential players to make sure the game works as intended before purchase.

This game has a decent aesthetic, but they really need to stop the story dumping. Show, don't tell. This is a video game: you can show us anything. The story would be better if they didn't dump it on the player.

The combat is awful. About as balanced as the last guy in the bar at 2am. Stamina and mana (?) both effectively don't exist in combat. Enemy communicates instantly, so you'll basically be surrounded before you even notice. The enemy hits like a train, and you hit like a marshmallow. Even with "extra heavy" weapons doing 30-40 damage, it takes a while to eliminate most enemies. Spongey enemies are bearable in other games, but the combat system in this game makes it annoying as hell.

Technically speaking, this game has issues. It mostly looks decent with some odd patches of weird textures. Every time a new zone begins to load, the game stutters. At times, it crashes when passing between the overworld and a smaller zone. I spent about 20 minutes attempting to leave "Cursed Crypt" without a crash. I had to revert to a previous save to leave the area.

Because of the combat and partially because of the technical issues, I am forced to conclude that this game is not good (as of this point of Early Access). Unfortunately, games that are bad in EA rarely improve in meaningful ways.

Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon tries too hard, and does not succeed. I will revisit this game sometime in the future, but I do not expect it to be better.

The first new Bethesda property in decades, and the majority of it is a giant snooze. There are a lot of fun things to do in Starfield. Then you do it again. And then again. And then again.

It's just a huge circle with very little variation.

Ah, Bethesda decided to call me on this. That was a bad move. I'm going to break down their statement and lay out some of my complaints.

"You can fly, you can shoot, you can mine, you can loot!"

Flying is basically pointless, shooting is Fallout 4 but governed by multiple different perk trees, mining is boring after like 20 seconds and the random loot is often absurdly unhelpful. For example: even with the relevant skills maxed out, the Maelstrom is trash.

"Starfield is an RPG with hundreds of hours of quests to complete and characters to meet."

The Constellation companions are all unbearable squares, and there are certainly not hundreds of hours of quests in a single playthrough unless a player is very slow. Other companions are either unbearable squares or just total tools.

"Most quests will also vary on your character’s skills and decisions, massively changing the outcome of your playthrough."

The 4 tier skill sets are pure fluff meant to make players need to level. Leveling takes an excruciatingly long time unless you're cheesing it with herds on a planet that shall not be named. The outcome of the playthrough doesn't change in any meaningful way; you still just begin another NG+ run. That's it.

"Try creating different characters with backgrounds and characteristics that clash or are oppositive of your previous character."

Yeah, and then do the exactly same gameplay loop for hundreds of hours with absolutely no actual differences?

"You will feel like you are playing a totally different game."

No, you won't. I've had multiple characters and the gameplay loop does not change. 12 hours in, the new character is finally geared enough to actually do stuff. Until then, they get wrecked by everything.

"Put points in different skills from a character you’ve previously created, and you are now faced with completely different decisions to make and difficulties to encounter."

Skill points don't feel like they matter, and should be given out more freely. Skill trees should have either branched for skill synergies or been 2 tiers. 4 tiers is absurd. The actual decisions don't appear to change regardless of dialogue, so I have no idea what Kraken means by that.

"There are so many layers to Starfield, that you will find things you’ve never knew were possible after playing for hundreds of hours."

That just sounds like an excuse for an absolutely godawful GUI. I've seen Starfield described as wide as an ocean and deep as a glass of water. The universe is huge, but it's populated by the same boring buildings and the same boring enemies and the same boring ships.

"Even after completing the Main Story, your adventure doesn’t end! You can continue onto New Game+ to keep exploring Starfield and all that is out there!"

Finishing Starfield the first time was interesting. The second time was boring. The third time hasn't happened yet, because I'm still looking for interesting things (mostly in vain). Edit: I began my fourth (or fifth, I genuinely don't care) and it's still boring.

"Never stop exploring!"

Then give me something interesting to look at. So far Starfield is a lot of boring emptiness and the exact same encounters over and over again. The major questlines are great, but outside of that the game offers very little compelling content. That DLC better blow my socks off.

"Bethesda Customer Support"

Support me by improving the game. I can't believe Starfield was delayed and still launched in this state. That's embarrassing.

I want to love this game, but it has been abandoned with a few significant issues. Aesthetically it reminds me a lot of Warcraft 3. Gameplay wise, it's the dumpster fire behind your local Denny's.

It's baffling that reviews are still mixed. If you're looking for a full game, this is not the right game.

Every time I'm just minding my own business unleashing waves of flaming rocks from the sky*, my game crashes. I was in the middle of the Lord's Labyrinth and the game crashed again. It's the most annoying thing about the game by far.

*or just walking around, minding someone else's business.

This is a great 40K game. This is not a good game.

In the last 4 hours of play, I have crashed multiple times. Each time there was exactly no reason. My drivers have always been up to date. My PC is extremely modern. All drivers system wide are up to date. There is absolutely no reason I would crash, but I crash. Almost every time I travel to the "Hub", I crash. There is a significant chance upon travelling to the Hub that I will crash, before or after an activity.

The game itself is fine. Not great, not bad, just average. It's just a constant grind. You'll do activities over and over again to rank up and that is it. That's the game. It's just grinding. Your characters don't matter. The "pin" mechanic employed by certain enemies is absolutely the worst thing about the game, because you're super boned if you just joined an activity and your team is way ahead of you.

The characters are laughably underdeveloped. They're pointless and worthless. There is no functional reason to choose Psyker over Ogryn, or Veteran over the other one that doesn't matter. They all do pretty similar damage at nearly similar ranges. Weapons don't even matter.

This game was built for normie masochists.

This game is a mixed bag to me. On one hand, I love the Dune universe. On the other, this game seems to have a few minor balance issues. Nothing major, just enough to be a little annoying. If you like Dune you'll probably like this game.

If you're looking for a game that is actual ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ garbage, you've found it.

These stupid ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ built a really good game with MW2019. All of those advances were discarded, and MW2 2022 is god awful.

Update 12/15: As we speak, an unskippable cutscene for this dumpster of a game is happening. I'm not going to watch your ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥ content, Cuckvision. Eat my ♥♥♥♥.

At face value, this is a space looter shooter with RPG elements. In the real game, it is a looter shooter where your loot doesn't matter 5 minutes after you get it because enemies scale. It's largely irrelevant, because this game throws waves of enemies at you. Typically cliche garbage like exploding enemies, immobilizing enemies, and boss enemies. Dial in your ship and then your enemies get stronger anyway so it didn't matter at all.

This game offers nothing exciting, and only realistically offers frequent frustration. In this state, you're better off playing No Man's Sky, Chorus, or Galaxy on Fire 2 (on a mobile device, GOF2 sucks on Steam). I will play again after the next update. I don't have good expectations for this game, given dev behavior on other reviews.

I am disappointed in Dota 2. The original custom game in Warcraft 3 had an enormous amount of charm. Dota 2 is not even recognizable as Dota, although it's been well over a decade since I last played the original custom game.

I wish the Warcraft 3 assets could be used, but I understand why they can't. It's just that I can't see this game as Dota at all, and so I can't recommend it. I spent a significant number of hours playing Dota years ago. This isn't Dota and it can't be.
