"Hey, how are you doing today?"

I used to say "I'm good, how are you?"

Now I just say "I'm Factorio."

This game is incredibly compelling. I won't recap "what is Factorio", just my thoughts on why it's good.

The building process is simple enough- there aren't any "secret formulas", technology unlocks as you research it.

You can make your base as complicated as you would like with a robust switching system, but it isn't needed to win the game.

Factorio never punishes you for building the "wrong" thing or placing something in the wrong way. All you need to do is pick it up and move it.

Base defense is important to keep your base working properly- in essence, the aliens create a sort of "wear and tear" on your base that you need to maintain (or automate maintainence of!) which keeps gameplay from getting too "creative sandbox" without taking away freedom to experiment with things.

This game has a lot of self-imposed troubleshooting which is probably my favorite part- figuring out why materials aren't getting to where they need to, or why the throughput isn't what it used to be, or discovering later on that your initial design isn't doing what you wanted it to do, and now you need to find a way to cut it over to a new design without losing total production.

Clever puzzle game, great art and music. Puzzles are a tad on the easier side, but they are fun and satisfying to complete. The trailer gives a pretty good concept of what you'll be running into- tape mechanisms, gear machines, etc. They're very fun to put together, and the puzzles don't give themselves away when you're "right". What I mean is often in puzzle games you place a piece and if it's right it "clicks" in and starts doing something- all of the pieces click in and may move but won't complete your objective, which makes a much more cerebral puzzle.

The book the game gives you is fantastic and well detailed and quite clever.

Certainly worth checking out if you're intrigued by the trailer.

Enormous amounts of very minor but beneficial DLC- buy a DLC to get the ability to unlock a few guns, no ability to try them before hand. You can play DLC missions but only if someone else makes the game- a nice feature, but there are over 25 DLC's for this game. I was keeping up with them, but they release them so often and they are so minor and stupid it's not worth it.

Most importantly of all, being a multiplayer game:

The networking tech is awful. More often than not I spend more time looking for games that respond "Waiting for server to respond" than actually playing the game.

In addition, the mission searching system is stupid- it randomly decides which difficulty and maps are available to you. Did you want to play a quick game on a particular difficulty? You can't. You have to wait for it or use some of your in-game currency to buy the ability to play a map you bought the DLC for.

Once you get into a game you have to hope that the mission you've selected will be played the way you'd want to.

There are numerous bugs with guards walking through walls and even when you've "failed" a mission it's not always clear as to why you failed.

The guards themselves have a simple AI, they walk around randomly and look at random things. They aren't really that interesting in that you just wait for guards to move away from where they are.

The game has an overall feel of a free to play game that isn't free to play.

On the up side, the music is amazing.

This game makes everyone so mad at each other and it's the best thing ever.
It's like world of warcraft raiding with 4 people except it's diablo and super hard mode.

and then after you're like ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ that was hard, then it says "you're not that good."

I recommend this game. Season pass is worth it, all the DLC's are great.

Shoot gun, get guns, repeat forever.

Just don't sit there like fuj and compare numbers for 5 minutes every time you get gun.

Damnit fuj.

By far the best puzzler I have ever played, and there's nothing like it. Don't read any real reviews, most have some vague spoilers. To quote the best line I've seen about it, "You’re not given knowledge. You take it."
