Shocked to see all the bad reviews for this game.
It's great! Sure the UI that seems lifted straight from mobile isn't that aesthetically pleasing but every other aspect from the SFC original was ported fine to Steam.
Essentially this game is a mix between your typical linear, narrative-centered JRPG gameplay and the more nonlinear, customizable WRPG gameplay, and it pulls that mixture off beautifully. It's a game that encourages experimentation and even restarting one's entire playthrough to apply what was learned from previous playthroughs. People who aren't aware of this upon booting the game may be confused and frustrated this isn't the kind of JRPG they were expecting, but for those ready for this game's offering it will be hard to put down. I also think the game's core narrative is pretty good and interesting despite being pretty sparse.

I just loved this. I've never written a review on Steam for a game before but this game deserves it. Imagine everything you loved about the old Igavanias done to peak quality. A giant expansive castle, tons of customization, tons of secrets, an incredible new Michiru Yamane soundtrack, responsive controls, the classic Igavania tropes (secret end area, post-game ability to play through it again with other characters, etc) and throwbacks to beloved easter eggs from Symphony of the Night. I can't express enough how many secret areas and secret bosses are in this game. Bonus modes (like a completely extra game using Bloodstained's assets modeled after Classicvanias) and ways to re-experience the game round out this package. It's awesome!! I can't wait for more Bloodstained content. The spin-off Curse of the Moon games were good too.
