Before being hyped for Deadlock, install this game, and try a Casual match of Team Fortress 2, then come back and say you are excited for Deadlock.

This game was my life in my early college years, and though I largely moved on since the Mannconomy Update (the beginning of the scourge that is Lootboxes in games) I had relatively good memories of it.

It's currently nothing like it was, I don't even recognize it. And Valve is just clocking in every day to sit at their computer staring at Facebook. And maybe working.

For a AAA game price tag ($50.00 USD) it's not worth to pick up at this time.

The combat is fun and the skills are functional, like D3 and Path of Exile settled on a compromise,

But there is a severe lack of industrial standards missing in the game that can not be excused by it being a console port. There is no toggle to keep an eye out for loot drops- the glimmer is faint on many items and your fingers aren't going to like being contorted to press ALT constantly.

There is no UI party frames- when someone joins you have no idea who they are, what level they are, how bad they are getting damaged, etc. There are no pings to let people know you opened a chest and they aren't in the vicinity.

Matchmaking is atrocious. I was in Act 2 when a fresh level 1 joined to start the game and was perplexed at the situation, and I, as a level 20, joined a game with fresh level 4's. It's non-existent.

There are no graphical options to customize from- this wasn't a big problem to me as the game seemed to be perfectly optimized to my rig so I had no real problems from that point, but another problem is that monster damage AOE is hard to see, muted and faint with no real option to make them obvious. The small, dull, pee green circle under your feet will be masked over by the see of mutated sludge in the sewers.

Finally, despite it being Warhammer, and having all the Warhammer tickboxes- it doesn't really feel like Warhammer.

It feels like a Chinese ripoff of Diablo 3.

It's brightly lit, there's practically no NPC's to talk to other than a Merchant (who isn't really a merchant as he just accepts your unwanted items to level reputation with him so you can get the occasional *free loot.) and he has nothing to say about the horrors going on. Having three top level Witch Hunters allowing themselves to be scolded and bossed around by a High Elf was also a rather whiplash experience. You aren't taunted by the enemies of Order, there's no otherworldly screeching or burbling from Chaos, no weather effects, a positively SURPRISING lack of gore considering what you are doing and what universe you are in.

I was hungry for an ARPG to sate my itch while I waited for the next league in Path of Exile and succumbed to buyers impulse, and paid the price in more ways than one.

Twenty bucks? Barely. Fifty? Not even close.

Big Ben has a loooooooooong way to go to bring this game to 2019.

EDIT: I got the price wrong and fixed accordingly and added my two cents on the matchmaking (or lack therof).
