alright, this is my favourite game ever, I've beaten it countless times on the ps2, just to clarify before you think this is troll review with minimal playtime
just for the love of god, get the gog version (or the console versions, I occasionally see ps2 copies in charity shops)

it's got a gorgeous world, fun gameplay, some of the best water I've ever seen in a game ngl, even for 2003, a really compelling story with fun characters and actual side content in an open world ubisoft game, unlike the monotonous busywork you get in assassin's creed and the like

that being said the steam version requires multiple community fixes to work as far as I can tell; the settings do not open because it "wasn't installed correctly", it doesn't scale to modern resolutions, and the audio is stuck in french (english subtitles for some reason tho)

I spent about half an hour faffing around trying to get this to work before I gave in and just got the gog version, which just opens and plays completely fine as soon as it's installed, imagine that?!?!

did steam playtest this????

as a game, it's tedious and repetitive but I managed to squeeze 21 hours out of it over the years via the fact you can rename your gladiators, and had a fun lil ending

that being said, with the few positives, there is no reason to support such a detestable developer (and anyways there's better games where you can rename the ppl you manage)

I get to kill my partner repeatedly and pretend it was an accident which gives me much delight
