game is gorgeous and incredibly fun

all the hubbub about the mtx feels moot since its all earnable in-game and not at all unfair. what i feel happened was Capcom told them to add mtx and so they did with a system that was already completed and designed fairly for singleplayer. having ignored the mtx completely, i do not feel i've missed out at all, and have in fact purchased a character customizer redo without paying an extra cent. i agree its scummy, but does it ruin the game? absolutely not. the game was very clearly not designed with mtx in mind.

the performance is not good, and is probably the game's biggest weakness. i dont think i would have had as much fun as i have if it were not for my 4070 and the free dlss3 frame-gen dll file that a kind modder has uploaded. with it, i get upwards of 120fps in the wilderness and perhaps 80 in cities. without it, cities drop to 30fps, and my rig is top of the line.

the story and quests are fun. i think it takes a dive towards the end of the campaign, but i honestly really enjoyed the 'true ending' endgame content. i was surprised after finishing to find that a ton of players hated the endgame. to each their own, i suppose. i love this game and would recommend it to anyone that wants an original and fun rpg. im having a blast going through ng+ and finding all the little things i missed the first time round

This game didn't click with me a year ago when I bought it. What's cool is this game gets so many updates that when I retried it on my Steamdeck, it clicked and clicked hard. Game is a ton of fun as a general space exploration and survival/crafting game. The story is actually quite interesting, if not a little tedious (i'm looking at you, the four ladders to climb up those damned holotransmitters). Really recommend it, not only for what it is but for what it could become. Thanks for being cool, Hello Games.

EDIT: They seemed to have listened and have buffed a majority of the weapons, and made many of the mobs easier to deal with. I am going to swap my review back to recommended as I want to ensure their new philosophy for balance and making the game fun is encouraged, not driving players out by making their game 'realistic'. As it stands, this patch has been the most fun I've had in this game since launch. Weapons feel viable again, and you can get a little goofy while still facing difficult odds without it feeling overpowering.
