Your time is not appreciated here. Stay far away.

Whilst there are some good parts of the game, the bad heavily outweighs the good.

The game is built by some paid developers, and a few unpaid developers.
A great part of the good developers left and took a sizeable chunk of the playerbase with them, these developers leaving because they could not tolerate the reluctance of the other developers to... well... develop, at all.

The remaining developers are very defensive about user feedback, and then gaslight you about how they appreciate it and want you to provide it. If they don't personally like you, you might even get no response, or worse, a very unprofessional passive aggressive tone.

The game's playerbase is shrinking more and more, and most of the feedback that suggests changing the parts of the game that most people think are bad game design is ignored, or waived away under the guise of the game heading a "different path". That path, however, is never shared with the playerbase; and when you ask for it, you get told that they're not obligated to respond to every bit of user feedback. More gaslighting, fun!

Speaking of the "path" the game is heading on: You will very often find developers break their promises, like not changing classes significantly overnight, or without proper testing. This has already led to multiple players quitting.

What's worse is that, after all this, developers STILL change core mechanics that have been the same for over 5 years without any sort of discussions. They just hear some feedback from their preferred players, and they act. The reasons they then provide for the changes are reasons that dumbfound everyone, such as "it was always intended to be that way". A mechanic that has been in place and used for over 5 years without any modifications, now suddenly gets changed significantly, because "it was always meant to be that way". This is either insane gaslighting, or severe developer incompetence. Pick your poison.

But wait, that's a case of developers listening to feedback; that's gotta be good, right? It is, kudos to them for that; although they only listen to feedback regarding the most end-game content, because that's where they themselves are affected; and only from their preferred players. If you are one of the players that is considered just too nosy to ask about updates on user questions and requests that have not gotten an update in years, and where no explanations were given, you might just be forced to witness how their unpaid developers gain lip and demean you for even trying to raise that point, telling you that it's okay that feedback is ignored.

If you ever raise questions about the game design, specifically about how things are inconsistent, or maybe that the main information about the game should not have to come form a separate Wiki that is not maintained by the developers and that is never up to date, you either get no response, or the aforementioned gaslighting.

No proposals about the early game are ever taking into account, even though proof was shown that it would make the new player experience better, and would likely attract new players.

You are strongly advised to not spend any money on this, or to waste your time on this game.

Most good developers left, the few remaining ones will gaslight you, and will destroy how your class is played overnight, without any sort of testing either, and will take 6 months to implement features that would require only about 30 minutes of work at most.

If you want to get a picture of how bad the development side of things is, picture this: You can sign up to be an unpaid contributor to the game's code, as a lot of the current developers are. Each contribution, however, is accepted or denied on a somewhat democratic process, but with the main, paid, developers, being able to override the decision.

Quick thought experiment:
What happens when a certain group of unpaid developers vote to block good choices, choices that were debated by players across different teams to enhance the game, with input and various ideas brainstormed and hashed together, based on personal issues they have with the contributors or with the players?
You get the good developers and players leaving, and you get the current state of Star Sonata 2 development.

Fun fact, a lot of the good development choices were voted against by most of the current development team, they had to be veto'd by the paid developers manually.
If this doesn't elucidate you about the future of this game and of your time spent, I do not know what will.

Rest in peace, it was fun until the illusion faded away.

If you do, however, decide to impose pain on yourself and play this game, and eventually join their Discord server, please do not get mad at one of their unpaid contributors, which usually goes by the name of Jecht, he was simply born that way, and/or is the way he is due to not having any prior software development experience, nor any soft skills that would make him not hated by the last few remaining players.
